well after i got my car from my brothers school after they have rebuilt the motor, i noticed that after driving a little bit my oil light would come on dim then a little bit later start to blink. everything is brand new oil pick up oil pan oil pump with oem honda. could a faulty oil pressure sending unit be my problem? and when i start my car the temp gauge jumps to hot right away. could this be another sensor going bad? new thermostat in it. its not leaking any coolant that i can see. any help would be appreciated… obviously my brother and his classmates went to school to learn how to be dumb instead of mechanics… no point in asking them all i get is a i think wait hmmmm i dont know… frustrating… thanks guys let me know if you come up with anything!!
well, get an actual oil pressure gauge and see what pressures you are actually getting.
my oil light did that a lot, altho my temps and pressures were ok, turned out to be a faulty ICU, it may be your issue too.
sometimes in learning environments you have an excess of carelessness. not saying this is the case, but a friend found peices of a shop rag in his oil pan after he had the local community college automotive class rebuild his bottom end. luckily it was his beater civic.
id say go over all the sensor connections with great detail, look for damaged housings, stripped or frayed wire loom and peer into them and see if anything looks worn.
check your ICU just for kicks. mine leaves the oil light on all the time in warm weather with thinner oil, in the winter with the same oil it doesnt come on at all, it has to do with the pressure being low at startup and the ICU not turning the dummy light off afterwards, if i shut the car off and turn it back on the light goes off.
good luck, i dont know what to tell you about the temp gauge other than what i said above but for the cooling system’s sensors instead. i dont know if the ICU controls that though.
thanks for the help… i just replaced my icu with another used unit and it revived my intermeddiate wipers and defroster but my oil light never came on before… until now that the newly rebuilt motor was put in… my brother said that they did check for oil pressure and it read 10 psi at 1k rpms. i’ll replace my oil pressure sending unit tomorrow and see if that is the problem…
replaced the oil pressure unit no more oil light!!! YAY!!! now to figure out what is wrong with my temp gauge. fans turn on doesnt over heat. it dropped from all the way hot to all the way cold. it doesnt gradually rise or drop it just jumps to each. any ideas?
