my oil light came on last night. when i checked my oil dipstick, the oil level was way above the max line. my dipstick in the past has always been pretty accurate. my car is a 91gs 4dr w/ 131k and was adding 1-1.5 quarts every 3-4000 miles. i put in 2 quarts of oil and the light went off. could i have a leak somewhere near the dipstick that could be throwing off the measurement of the oil dipstick?
The dip stick goes straight into the oil pan. The light only goes on for low oil pressure.
wrong forum?
isn’t this where you get help? what forum should it go in?
sorry
just to make sure (i’m sure you did), but you took the dipstick out, wiped it off then reinserted it and checked it right?
yes, i wiped the dipstick. the dipstick has been pretty accurate and i check my oil level at least weekly. i need to add 1qt every 3k miles. i tried a 10w30 synthethic blend (castrol) 2 weeks ago. since then i haven’t been able to get an accurate reading on my dipstick, always reading that the oil is way above the max line. i know that my car burns a little oil and there is no way that my car is producing oil on its own. if it is, i’ve got myself a oil field. do you think that adding the syn blend had something to do with my oil pressure light coming on? gonna go back to reg 10w30
thanks for everyones help
check your oil when the engine is cold because when u your engine is still hot there is oil still stuck in the head.
bey bro, My car started doing the same thing 3 days ago…Theres plenty of oil in it, but the oil light is actually flashing in a pattern…Im gonna run some tests on it in the next couple days and ill post if i find anything…
