oil pressure light??

hi guys,
when my car has been sitting for over 3 hours and I start the car the oil light is on for the first 2-3 seconds. Does anyone else’s do this. I wonder if the bearings are worn so much they require a little time to build pressure, or maybe if a gasket around the oil pick up is going bad. OR maybe worse, the oil pump could be dying… anyone have any experience from this? My engine is a 1992 B18A1 with 130,000 miles. The light goes off and is not seen while driving, but for it to stay on for 2-4 seconds at startup doesn’t make me feel that good. Any ideas, suggestions, experiences?

i think its normal. It just takes a little time for the pressure to build up. I notice the same thing every time i start the car up right after an oil change.

After an oil change I can understand, but at every cold startup I think is a little excessive.

Its normal. If it was staying on for more than 4 seconds, which when you stop to think about it is a really long time, I’d get worried.

Damn my LS motor started doing that lately to, it stays on for about 1-2 seconds…But it dissapears…I had no problems…

it is normal… now if it comes on while you driving that’d be somenthing to look at (that was happenig to me) when i took it to this import shop the guy told me that the light will come on and stay on a few extra seconds after you turn the engine on…
just wanted to be helpfull:)

Aside from the normal dummy light test the oil light should never come on even at start up.All the dummy lights should go out together(abs, brake, oil etc)if one is staying on that is a sign that something is starting to fail.Whether it is the oil pressure switch, pump or bearings that is hard to say.Get it checked out the oil is the life blood of that engine.Don’t risk it!!

I don’t care about my engine, the LS/VTEC is going in this comin week!! YEEEHAAAA
