Hey to start off i replaced my oil pump timiing belt and my water pump wen i took off my oil pump the gear was into pieces does anybody know why or ever heard of oil pumps jus taking a dump outta nowere
could be that it was working with no oil or engine overheated at one point in the past.
Overheating kills engines and trannys life by half the life it already had left.
dido.
debris
Ive had the car since high school thats bout 5 years and never had over heated the motor im pretty anal bout this car so ive always kept it in shape
Hey I need to change the o ring on my oil pump. Not sure how to take it off though with the motor being in the car. Is there how to instructions on how to change an oil pump?
Thanks
you should be able to get at everything through the fender liner
yeah it doesn’t look that hard. Well I have a buddy that has been finishing up my car but he has been taking forever on it. I’m going to call him tomorrow about it and if he hasn’t started fixing the leak then I’m going to be towing it back to my house and I’m going to do it. He said his computer said it was going to take 4 hrs to do and I had another buddy look it up on his computer at his shop and he said it would take 5 1/2 hrs if i had ac. I don’t think it should take more than 3 hrs. I will just have to see… The whole thing pisses me off (long story)
Yea took me bout 5 hrs to do everything because you need to remove your oil pan oil pick up line too the timing belt service takes 3hrs alone but since your dealing with the oil pump to you need to first remove the braces that go from your motoe to trany then remove your exhaust then drop the oil pan and remove the pick up line once you have done that start removing the valve cover and all the belts ac,alt, and power sterring then proceed by taking your jack plcing it on the edge of your tranny ( make sure you have a 2x4 between the jack and the tranny) lossent the right side motor mount then start taking off your top timing belt cover …then your gonna need a special tool to hold your crankshaft pulley in place your also going to need a deep 19 socket with a long breaker bar for leverage once you have the crank. Pulley off take off the lower timing cover then proceed taking the timing belt off (make sure your at top dead center and the the timing marks line up) then remove your water pump after that you can start taking off your oil pump and walla now all you gotta do is put everything bak in the same order you took it off
you can save a whole lotta time by not removing the pan
or does the pump cover have studs that go through the pan? i can’t remember on these
yeah I don’t have the very top cover covering my cams on so I don’t think I would have to take the valve cover off. I am going to though just so I can check out the timing. I am just about done with the build other than this stupid leak and tuning. I was just going to leave the motor mount on and just move the timing belt out of the way. Also how do you get the motor in timing before you take it off? Also where do I get that special tool to hold the crank shaft? I used my cousin’s neighbor (he sales tools) last time. He let me borrow it. Any ways I am not sure if I am even going to do it. An old friend of mine that should be tuning my car said he would but shit it’s been over a week and nothing. He hasn’t called and said it was done so I’m getting very pissed that he is slacking off. I’m going to call him today and if he hasn’t started it then I’m going to go down there and tow the car to my house and do it. Thanks for the info though.

Yea the oil pump have the studs for the oil pan
In order to get the motor on timing you have to line up some marks the camshaft has a arrow on each cam that says. “up” put the cams with the arrows facing up and on the crankshaft “gear” not pulley you will see a dot and on the oil pump will be a mark line those up and the cam shats being in the up position you will have the motor on time. Make sure you mark the belt on each gear camshaft and crankshaft with some white out once you have them on the belt and on the gear take the belt off so you have your own marks and wen you put them bak you know axactly weer you left off
Why do you have to mark the belt? If the cam shafts and mark on the shaft is lined up, I don’t see why you have to mark the belt.
Because even so you can end up being a tooth off its a common mistake wen you try to put that timing belt on those cams are gonna move and so by marking them even if they move you know wer exactly wer the belt used to be trust me bro ive done this for a long time save yourself a headache and jus mark the belt …
Will do man… My car is at my buddies right now. He said he was gonna do it but saying and doing are two different things. I find out tomorrow if he did it or not. Thanks for the info
fixed my oil pump leak… Took me 4 hrs at this with power steering and AC installed as well. It was actually pretty easy and I enjoyed doing it. The shops around here would have charged me $500 just in labor a lone.
