wats up g2ic. Ok so heres the deal. last night i went to get some da6 lights for 130$!! (i no u get what you pay for but still lol). it was kinda dark but they looked legit. i get home put them on step back and can notice the passenger side one is kinda darker. It looks like the housing is black?? Im guessin the guy used an ebay housing?? other than that there flawless. So my question is are the housings metel and can i mabye polish it? spray it white? or just sell them and get my money back? Any suggestion will be great
First separate the lens from the housing by either using a heat gun or the oven to warm up the glue. You can remove black paint with a grafitti remover solvent and paper towel. It will remove the paint and not the chrome plating but can remove the chrome if wiped too hard. It will take a lot of work but it is do-able. If that seems like to much then either buy another passenger side headlight or paint the driver side.
Ok thanks so ill go to harbor freight and pick up a heat gun…my ovens to small for those lights ha. It cant be to much work, iv polished my rims by hand before (never again!)…mabye ill post pic on how it looks after my attempt.
i just finished polishing and resealing mine. what i used was a window sealer that came in a roll. it’s a gum like the oem stuff but is a little softer.
the trick to resealing effectively, and this is the somewhat painstaking part, is removing all the old gum from the housing and the lens. pretty much gotta pick it all off/out. bit of a PITA. but my headlights have stayed completely bone dry since. and it’s rained a lot here. when you put them back together, use vice grips with a bit of tape wrapped around the jaws and clamp the lens and housing together. careful not to use too much force though. then just pop the clips back on.
try finding a headlight with a damaged lens for cheap and rob the housing from it. i may actually have a damaged passenger side kickin around for parts. but i’m in canada, so i kinda doubt shipping would make it efficient
^^^thanks welfar & everybody!! so over the week i went to my friends place and used his oven, worked like a charm…5 minutes at 230 degrees they just peeled apart but i came to relize i dont have the magic touch when it comes to making the chrome under shine, so i went and picked up some instant chrome. i think it will be better than black…and if im still not digging it ill just sell em. But this is them so far…ill post the finished product when im done…
