just installed them --only problem is my car is salvage, also someone stole my plates(to make matters worse) and i have to re register in october not to mention some stole my plates in the front of my house so i have a temporary operating sticker(has a #9 on it ).lastly the guy is i bought the car from smogged it but 90 days is already up–so basically dmv checked it out but the only thing missing was a vin# on the inside of the driver door–so now i have to get it inspected by the CHP–my question will they trip off not having a reflector on the corner lense or my signal lights bblinking only in the bumper???:bigread:
of course. They’re illegal in the US i believe, which is why we have our own headlight. everywhere else is pretty much 1 pc.
Yes they are illegal. They are not DOT approved and don’t have required amber reflectors.
Whether or not they care is up to them. No one here can answer that question.
thanx:werd:
You can barter with the judge to explain to them that the JDM lights enhance your safety aspect of your vehicle by shining more effectively, and have less hazardous qualities cause their is less glass involved.
When you talk to the officer, appearance and attitude is everything. Tell them the same deal. The courts work off of test proven results that can be reflected on paper and reality.
they probably won’t care. when you go for a chp inspection, they are looking for discrepancies in the vin and will look to see if the car or any vin on the car comes up stolen. I’ve taken a few old cars (with and without vins/engines) to inspection. the main reason for the inspection is to resolve the vin issue. it should take about 30 min.
They LACK the amber reflectors. They can shine and be as safe as they want, if there are no amber reflectors and it is not DOT approved, then it is illegal. And if DOT thought they were safe, one-pieces would have come stock in the first place.
It really isn’t that hard to grasp.
Mike–do you have one pieces?
Yep…on my Mazda3.
have you ever been pulled over?
Holy-fucking-shit. They arent DOT approved. They’re illegal. Do you have hard scientific data to back this up? I’m being serious. You want to play hardball with a judge dont think that he or she isnt going to take a shit on the deal and piss all over you. How can you prove that they shine more effectively? No seriously. Less hazardous qualities? yeah I cant being to tell you how many people were killed year by glass headlights.
So he or she has something to laugh about as they write me a ticket? Its like arguing that you’re saving gas if you drive 10 mph over the limit because you will get where you’re going quicker and be on the road a shorter amount of time.
And for whatever reason the JDM 1 peice headlight was and is NOT DOT compliant.

apparently mike it is. Its like the whole legalizing tinted windows thing. “it makes driving safer!” Yes I;m sure 5% limo tint on all of your windows makes driving your car at night SUPER safe.
“It protects items inside my car from theft” No one told you to put a $2000 stereo system in a class of car (modified imports/compacts) that is known for a high rate of theft. Not to mention many owners manuals have common sense tips about locking valuables in the glove box or trunk.
“It will keep me safe from glass in an accident.” Really? Hrmmm I know there was this invention automakers started putting on cars as early as the 60’s to make the glass less harmful. I think its called safety glass. I’m sure they factored in how it would react in an accident situation when people apply large sheets of plastic over it.
Nope, not for them. And if I did, it would be really a big surprise.
i learned something today
i just thought honda hated us
Solved.
to truly answer his question… no, they should not “trip” as you are going in for vin verification. that is the whole reason behind the chp inspection. It is not a safety inspection.
Just because they are checking VIN doesn’t mean they can’t check the rest of the car to make sure parts aren’t stolen or illegal (not DOT approved, CVC violation) as well. :tapfing:
the only other thing that they will check is to see if the engine and tranny is stolen (forgot to mention that). that is all. nothing more, nothing less. Anything is within the realm of probablility. just because there is a possibility of something happening, does not mean that it will happen. Sure, the DOT guy could show up all the way from torrance to shoot the shit with the police officer and maybe decide to join him in the inspection in add his 2 cents. is that part of the normal inspection? no, not at all. did it happen? yes. maybe you park your car in the inspection area (on the street, wherever you can find parking or in their parking lot) and a freight train miraculously jumps the tracks and totally creams your car and your one-pieces along with it. is that part of the normal inspection? no, not at all. did it happen? yes.(hypotheticals, btw.)
If you want to scare him, then yes, in this world, anything can happen. will it most likely happen? no. Tell you what, instead of listening to any of us, just call the CHP and ask them what is involved in an inspection. they will tell you. dress your car accordingly:wave:
i gotta take em off anyway–theres hella silicone around the edges–it looks ghetto.wanted to get the jdm bumper support2 tho-so its probably for the better-but right on for the feedback-
Yeah get the JDM bumper support, makes you go mad fast. Who cares about the safety anyway?!?
