I have to transmissions that both came off a B18A1 block. One spline is 1/2 inch longer then the other, ever seen this? What does it mean?
there’s 4 kinds of transmission’s that come with a b18a. S1, A1, YS1 (LS), YS1 (gsr). what two transmissions do you have?
One is the gold tag S1, the other someone one scratched part of the tag off whats left is white with a barcode. The white tag one is 1/2 inch longer. Can I use any clutch?
I’ve never heard of the spline being 1/2 inch longer. The S1 uses the 90-91 clutch. The one with the white bar code tag is a YS1 which uses a 92+ clutch disc (both the LS and GSR versions use the same clutch). S1, Y1, and J1 transmissions use the 90-91 clutch. The YS1 and any 94+ hydro transmissions use the same 92+ clutch disc. Pressure plates and flywheels are interchangeable between all B-series transmissions. All of the 90-93 cable transmissions use the same throw out bearing, and the 94+ hydraulic transmissions use a different one. So, you have to use a different clutch disc if you want to switch between those two transmissions, but you can reuse the rest of the parts if they are still good.
I figured it out, one of the throw out bearing was stuck out 1/2 inch causing the spline to look shorter.
