Is it really worth it? The fender guard will still be in place…so the filter will not be exposed…so if i keep my teg out of hugh puddles and flooded roads…do i really have anything to worry about? I really dont want to cut tha pipe…but i wanna be safe.
FYI: I used the search and read all related topics…didnt find any good info
IF you’re talking about the AEM bypass…IMO, it doens’t work unless the filter is completly sumerge in water…
Yes, Im talkin about tha aem air bypass valve. Thanks for tha info. I have heard the same thing before. It only works if completely submerged. Just want to make sure that statement is accurate.
Originally posted by Integra Type that bypass valve is just an extra filter.
The BPV is not an extra filter…know what your talking about before you give someone potentially bad advice!! It works, you dont really need one unless you drive in an area where it rains alot or there is poor drainage, the BPV does not do anything until the main filter becomes completly submerged. If you drive skillfully and con avoid these hazards then you can save some money…The BPV had a recall on the 1st. Gen, it has been long since fixed. It is correct that there is a decrease in HP & TQ but is less than 1% (caused by turbulence) but is well worth the piece of mind…
filter? no… it’s a valve. i have one sitting next to me. the foam you see is just on the outside. if you look under the foam you see how it works. it remains closed all the time. (the flaps). then basically when the pressure increases (Ie: it’s plugged and filling w/ water) it opens the flaps and the air is then sucked in through the bypass valve.
thus the water won’t keep sucking into the inake tube and will start to filter back out the bottom. the bypass valve will act as your "filter"until the pressure is again normallized at which time it will close again and the CAI resumes sucking air from the main filter.
Yea, I was driving to San Antonio when we just kinda drove through a flash flood. Cars were all over off the road. To compound it, I found out the wheel well splash guard was missing a few of it’s “screws” so it got ripped out. I drove through 50 miles of down pour, flooding, puddles, inches of water all over the ground and all kinds of deep puddles. My car works fine, never had a problem and I will never doubt or regret the purchase again. There was no way to “dodge” those puddles, they were wider than the highway. The valve works. And I’m writing AEM on it. Those guys are awesome, buy it, it’s good insurance.
well i had mine on for probley 5 months and it broke. the two pieces of plastic holding it together brake appart if the way you have your pipes set up stresses it. so i sent mine back 2 months a go and have ductape on my intake until they get off there asses and send me a new one. if i had to do it again i would just get it without the bypass valve so i wouldnt have to deal with the assholes at http://www.lightningmotorsports.com/ . just buy yours from someware with good customer service because it will brake.
Yo d3. Do you have to buy a new one? or are they going to send you one for free? I have a brand new one that I ordered with my intake that I decided not to use after everyones input. Let me know…I will sell it cheap.
They send you a fix, and if yours is brand new, then you don’t need to worry. The “faulty” ones are almost a year old now, only ones made before january last year. I would put it on if i were you, you never know what will happen.
