First of all I’d like to introduce myself, I found this website somehow while surfing the net and found it to be a great help. I just got my second DA, its a 92, definitely a great car, i paid 1300 for it and its all stock aside from some slipstreams and exhaust that the previous owner put on. I missed the 93 DA I had a few years ago, and now that I know more about these cars, I’m excited to start working on it.
Seeing as the stock suspension is still there, I’m putting new struts/coilovers on first. I have done a lot of research on the different choices available and i know that most people recommend the GC/Koni combo for sleeve style coilovers, but I’m a full time student and I’m only pullin 20 hours a week for work so I can’t really afford the greatest stuff. I had Megan racing coilovers on Tokico blue struts on my 96 DC and it was ok. Any big bump or pothole was hard but the car was slammed as low as the coilovers would go so I expected that. Other than that they weren’t bad so I’ve decided to get the Megan Racing coilovers again but this time I decided to order the Skunk2 sport shocks. Basically what I would like to ask is to anyone who has used the Skunk2’s: How are they? I’ve already placed my order so I’d really just like to know what I should be expecting. Also, has anyone used them with the Megan coilovers?
I appreciate any comments and will post some progress pics of the project when I get some time to actually work on the car!!
That’s a pretty dam good set up I had that on my old 1992 da the skunks shocks are really good I had myne with ebay coils camber kit and lower control arms do it man
Welcome!
I can’t comment on those shocks specifically but some advice someone gave me when I first joined the site, which I followed and it turned out to be true was that the most significant suspension improvement you can make to our cars is to replace the bushings. The bushing kit from Energy Suspension is relatively inexpensive (much less than you paid for those shocks) and just requires a weekend worth of work. This was true 8 years ago when first joined the site after getting my first Integra and will be even more true today as those stock bushings get older and older. Having tight connections between the suspension components will make everything work better and more like it should.
Be aware that if all you have is a vice as a press, you will probably need to get a machine shop to press out at least a few of the old bushings so I would get started Friday night in case you have to take something in on Saturday morning (I’m assuming you need your car to be functional by Monday).
Because of financial concerns, I never did get shocks and springs on that first car, just the bushings, a big rear sway bar and a good front tie bar. I loved the way it felt and handled and comfort on the highway/around potholes was noticeably different, but not so stiff that the GF would complain.
I had this setup Skunk2 Sport Shocks and Ebay coil over sleeves. The ride was very smooth better than stock actually. But the coil over sleeves were crappy springs but if your looking to just lower car it a decent setup. Performance wise it’s incredibly bad just too soft of a spring rate.
DO NOT EVEN BOTHER WITH THE EBAY COILOVERS… waste of time… do it once and do it right. if u cant afford to buy them then dont lower the car… buy springs… TIEN S TECH Springs are about 160.
trust us when we say go with a brand name for suspension componants, GC sleeves are great and it all comes down to the spring rate so give them a call and place an order for a setup that will best suit your needs. The spring rate can make or break your ride quality expectations.
I would never buy ebay parts. I’ve been down that road, its all crap lol. I got the Megan Racing coilovers, this is what the manufacturer has for spring rates: 325F AND 300R.
I’m not exactly sure whether that it stiff or soft but like I said I’ve had these coilovers before, they felt pretty stiff to me which I figured would be a good combo with the Skunk2’s.
I donno if this link works or not but its a pic of the car how it sits now. I did some research, seems that the spring rates specified by Megan are closer to the soft side but not enough to where it willl be a shitty ride.
i have the s2 sport shocks on my car, and they ride okay. i am using s2 lowering springs with them and the spring rates are a little stiff, so the ride is a bit harsh. im sure if you used some higher quality coilovers they would ride and handle pretty well. heres a pic of my car on the s2 springs and sport shocks.
