Opnions on headlight ideas...

I would like honest opinions. I finally have some money to work on my car wiht and the first thing i really want is to get new headdlights with HID’s. Many of you may not like the Ebay black headlights but I do. However the lighting is still not what I want it to be. I am looking into getting retrofit parts from a junkyard as far as ballasts and projectors and bulbs. My dilemma is this. If I do a retrofit I hear that the high beam is really not necessary to be HID so I am considering doing a low beam only retrofit to where the foglight sits and keeping the regular spot for the halogen bulb as a high only. Then purchasing some fogs seperately. That or getting a HI/LO kit from a sponsor on here an getting hid yellow fogs as well. Just wanted to know what everyone things will look better.

Again I don’t care if you like the look of the headlights themself. Wondering what would be a better light output combination.

I think you should get the Bi-xenon projectors which will work for both low and hi beam…and get the Bi-xenon kit…and 3000k yellow fogs in the hid… a good Bi-xenon projector is from a BMW…,…they have a good cut off

+1 for the bi-xenon projectors.

Just make sure you do not get a projector housing that is too deep. If its too deep, your gonna run into the battery, unless you have already relocated it.

HIDs may be brighter than halogen, but its not necessarily an excuse to eliminate high beams altogether just because the low beams are HID.
plus if your state requires you to do inspections, they might fail you on not having a high beam function.

bi-xenon would be the best, its just an issue of getting the right ones with the right dimensions, otherwise it wont fit.

So far I am able to get the FX35 parts so I want to do the HID in the fog as well with the yellow 3000k’s. I am going for the bixenon in the stock placement. I assume Even with the fx35 projectors that I have to still get other ballasts and bulbs or are the fx35 all i need? I want to provide as good of a write up as possible and I don’t want to eliminate the high beams. Not cuase of state inspection but because they are there for a reason. Any one know about the bi-xenon parts?

bi-xenon is a function of the projectors, basically there is a solenoid that is attached to a moveable shield. once you turn on your high beam switch, power is sent to the solenoid, which lowers the shield, and throws light above the low beam cutoff.

and yes you still need ballasts and bulbs.

there’s a couple OEM ones you could go with, matsushita, denso, hella, philips… etc

the FX projectors use D2S bulbs. most common one is Philips 85122 4300k D2S

they also have the 85122+ (Philips) which are about the same kelvin range, just slightly brigher than the 85122

they’re not 5000k despite what people may say, the only ones that are have the “CM” (color match) as a part number. so it would be 85122+ D2S CM.

here’s some more resources if you need it.

Sorry while at work I have limited time to view the forums and can’t check the links here. Will try tonight. Just in case it matters I am getting the entire headlight assembly. Bulb, ballasts and projectors from the fx35. Thanks for all the help and I will look at those links tonight hopefully to get more info.

dont forget to post a DIY with pictures!!!

So a little upset after being sent cracked projectors and no bulbs I am just a little bit perturbed. I think I may have fouind a good deal on some JDM headlights in good condition so I think I am gonna pick those up now as well and use until I can get a good deal on another set of fx35 lights to do the retrofit into the ebay black housing headlights. Curious, I thought I recently saw a pic of someone who did the retrofit into the JDM headlights and I think they said they sand the lens smooth for the retrofit. Does anyone know if he had a write up. I would hate to ruin a JDM lens but that looked nice to me as well and with the price on the lights I am trying to get it is worth trying to do if I can get a good write up on sanded the lens smooth and clear. Hope someone can help…
