Optima battery review

well i have had this battery in my car for about 5 years in my ar still cranks up like new , so i think its time for a review , my old stock g2 battery when out when i bought the car after draining it with the car stereo i installed in the car , instead of going to autozone and get a cheap 50 dollar battery i went and bought a optima battery at costco it was around 120 back then proably cheaper today , over the 5 years i have left the interior lights on for 3 days straight came from town battery was dead ,did a quik pop start battery charged up fine no problems ,listen to the car stereo with amp and 2 12s for hours tailgaiting at a football game started up no problem , the other thing i like about the batterys is that there is no battery acid on the battery(since they use liquid )and also yoiu can mount the battery anyway you want side ways upsidedown ect great for race or off road vehicle, one of the best things i bought for my car if u need a new battery i really reccomend a optima

i will have to totally agree with you on a optima battery.I have a yellow top in my car with one 12 and two amps and this thing is amazing.I bought a more powerful altenator and a cap and was still getting dimming. When i put this battery in my car all the dimming stopped and i mean at very high volume levels too.I can play my system for hours with the car off and it will start no problem. This battery is good to go to drive in movies too.I will never use another battery for a car, as a matter of fact i will bring this battery to any new car i get.I am not giving up this battery until it dies.Hopefully 5-10 years from now.

I agree w/both you guys. I’ve had my yellow top for about two years now and it has always run strong. Over those years I’ve had many stereo setups running up to 3 amps and 2 12’s.

Now just so people don’t think this battery is invincible, I have to include the fact that it did die on me once, just the other day. I was working on my car in the garage for over 5 hours listening to music straight out of my car powering 2 amps and XM Radio tuner. It lasted that long without starting the car once!!!

Like tegereg said, excellent battery to take with you to the drive in movies!

question guys: i know there’s different top colors. so, what’s the difference and what colors are there? please get technical, too. i like it when things get technical. :horny: i like getting beat too, but that’s a whole different issue… :stuck_out_tongue:

I can explain the basic differences, but it ain’t all that technical.
Although all optima batteries would generally be considered “marine” type batteries since they are deep cycle batteries, the BLUE top battery is often used in marine applications.

The RED top battery is known for its great starting ability, like when starting your car in the worst of conditions (?).

And the YELLOW top is best for car stereo applications that draw large amounts of power during times that the vehicle is off (such as sound system tests/shows) because of its large reserve capacity.

Question?

Is this the only battery you are running, or is this your second? Like, are you running the optima under the hood, or are you running a battery under the hood, and then a optima in your trunk?

no need for second battery ,he is just staying there is diffrent applications that your local diehard battery doesnt offer, also who the hell would be running to car batterys in there g2?the only thing i could think would be for hydros , but hydros for acura/hondas are wack in my opinion

actually if you are runnig between 1500-3000 watts you probably will want a interstate under the hood and a optima in the trunk, but thats for serious stereo people. The yellow top is an excellent starter battery as well and can be drained and recharged lots of times as oppsed to the red top which will get damaged if you drain it and recharge it

anyone know where I can find the best prices for the battery?

hey, is this optima battery those light weight 11lbs battery???
