Just today my 91 RS started heating up 90-100% H engine temp. It would sit foor a second ten drop down to 50-60%
it continued doing this until i got home.
it was a little low on oil, fixed that, no avail.
It tends to get warmer quicker when it idles as opposed to highway driving.
Water pump and radiator cap hav been replaced 3 months ago.
I’m fairly certain it’s the thermostat failing but i just moved and i dont have my tools or manuals yet. Any input?
Thanks.
Check your coolant level and try bleeding any air bubbles out.
Check that you cooling fan comes on.
Definitely could be a failing thermostat.
Check for any slow leaks in the system.
Outside chance that the radiators starting to clog up. About $60 to boil. rod (if necessary) and paint a gleaming gloss black, includes a new quality cap too. At least in my area. Most driveway flushes don’t give a clue whether your on your way out. Acura rads are toughest by far according to Stan the Man at his rad shop. Most anything :ohyeah: can be fixed up on them.
Like others said try changing the thermostat when you get your tools. Mine did this about a month ago. The exact same thing yours does, the reason why its overheating at idle opposed to highway driving is because the water pump is moving faster during highway driving. Hope that helps.
