Thanks, just trying to keep the DAs alive here in jersey, there isn’t many of us left here.
Colin is correct. I have a B18C1 and don’t have a Knock Sensor installed (B18A1 engines/harnesses dont have a knock sensor) and was disabled by the tuner. I also have the Oil Temp wire just hang from the harness.
Half sized radiators are notorious for not cooling enough in cars setup for a full size, adding a turbo likely just makes this worse. Do you have any pics? Depending on your setup you may need a bigger/better fan and/or you may need to block off the open side of the opening in your radiator support to funnel air through the radiator. My friend put a half size in his EF and his NA B18C5 would overheat on track until he blocked off the other side so air had to go through the radiator instead of around it. He later got a full size radiator. If you have a generic slimfan then you should be aware that most of these flow a fraction of what an OEM fan + shroud will flow.
i boosted my ef hatch, ran an eg half rad with no issue at the track… but the thermostat was always open and fan was basically always on… mind you that was behind a huge intercooler aswell
fabbing something up to re direct the air thru a rad is never a bad idea though!
i have the fan on at all times now and everything is good. Since i scheduled a tune for august 12th, and the car smokes a bit i decided to change the valve seals. I figured id do a little write up so here it goes
Changing you valve seals without removing the head, what you will need
-OEM valve seals
-10’ of 1/4" rope
-valve seal removal pliers
-10mm socket
-valve keeper remover & installer
Start by putting jacking the car, and put the engine on TDC
and take off the cams, cam caps ect. since cyl #1 are at TDC, feed the rope inside the chamber #2 or #3 until you are left with about a foot out the sparkplug hole. than turn the crank until you cant go anymore, that will make the piston push against the rope and prevent the valve from dropping when you take off the retainer
the 10mm socket fits right over the seal, so just push it in and hammer it down. You will feel what is like a click
here are the old seals and new
installed
continue and repeat the process with the rope and piston until done
DONE!! re time the engine and enjoy the fact that you saved yourself lots of money, time, and a new headgasket. Oh and always go OEM!!!,
I finally got around to putting everything back together, and its the little things like valve cover gasket and spark plug seals both OEM, go in so easy and DONT LEAK!!! OEM FTW
OEM PLUG wires too
I wrapped the ramhorn to keep temps down, and added hood raisers. ANY tips on clampling the wrap better with a fastener?? I used a thin one thats like a zip tie but metal, but they are difficult to work with. Also any techniques to finish the wrap so it looks better?? i decided to use the metal clamps that although dont look great, they work great.
Started the car and i always like how the stuff you touch steams and burns off
I went to honda day and won second place! here are some pics
after months of waiting i finally got to put them on my car
my favorite wheel of all time te37. these are the specs te37sl 15x8 +25 with 225 45 15 hankook rs-3. I love this set up, the car feels really good in the turns, responsive, and light overall.
parked at honda day
After months of neglecting the car, I finally got it ready for tuning. B4 my appointment I upgraded the injectors from 680cc(for sale btw) to 1000cc. So glad I upgraded because here are some pics and videos.
Goodbye 680cc
Grams 1000cc
Final prep the night before, oil change, checking for any leaks, tightening hoses and couplers
Here’s a pic at the dyno
At the beginning of the session something was wrong with my alternator so tuning could not continue, I drove the car an hour and the battery light never turned on. During the session I was informed that I was running on battery and while on the dyno the battery was drained to the point that the light turned on. Luckily, Jeff had another alternator so I bought it, changed it and tuning continued. Here’s a vid of one of the final pulls

So happy with the outcome 445hp 310tq @ 16-17psi with a block that only has forged Pistons/rods and a stock head. During the final two pulls my drivetrain started vibrating so Jeff had stopped.
I had to get towed home because I just didn’t want to drive with that vibration for an hour in a freeway.
So far I changed one axle, and drove the car and the vibration is less so I’ll change the other one and hope my diff is good.
Car was tuned by Jeff Evans in PA
Hondata s300
nice #'S
Thanks! Replaced both axles and no more vibration, glad it was just that now time to drive and learn the car as well as address the suspension to I can ATTEMT at putting the power to the ground. Any opinions/experience will be appreciated from anyone running high HP. So far what I know that needs to be replaced are the bushings throughout the whole car.
-traction bar
-kyb agx/ground control
-skunk upper camber
-stock sway bars.
This is how my suspension is currently set up.
Also, any imput on a hydro ebrake, so I can stage at the track.
Dude those numbers are boss! I’d like to plan to meet up one of these days. Do you ever come up to MA/CT? Digging the wheels and everything is super clean. Congrats on taking 2nd place at HD. For traction, I don’t have any experience with as power as you have, but I can tell you what I helped my setup. I decided not to run traction bars and simply upgrade the “radius rod” bushing to poly, window welded all four mounts and I also upgraded all the bushings except UCA’s and I felt a huge improvement from all that. Do you have an LSD? Obviously that was a game changer. At one point I had AGX/GC and I upgraded to Koni/GC and again, a night and day difference.
How much are you selling the injectors for? I have a resistor box installed now for my 450’s, will they swap in directly?
Unfortunately, that’s too far from me, I live in north jersey. I may try out the open crossmember, I have LSD. Thanks for the input I want to get as many opinions as possible during my winter suspension/refresh build. Yes the injectors will work, I was running a resistor box in my db2, but since I upgraded I’m no longer running a resistor box. Hopefully you can make it to Honda day next year, Itd be great to see your build in person, share ideas, and meet another member who has stuck with this chassis for so many years. I can do 120 shipped with tracking. Black Friday special lol.
I also have a video my engine running with the injectors, right before I took them out to put the 1000s.
Fresh bushings, traction bar (polyurethane radius rod bushings minimum) and stiffer engine mounts and you’ll be in business.
After driving the car around for two days, it felt great. The car feels like it’s oem out of boost, which is what I was really looking forward to…DRIVEABILITY. With that in mind I need to start working on the bushings replacement. I’m running the cableto hydro conversion and the engagement point on the trans from a dead stop has always felt weird. Your thoughts would be appreciated if you are running the same set up. I’ll update some pics later today of two g2 meets I’ve been to
What kind of traction bar are you using??
I have the k-tuned traction bar. Excellent product and holds up to lapping no problem.
Do you get any weird sounds when taking off from a dead stop? I experienced the same when I was running the avid bar in my da9. I also have the cable to hydro so that may play a factor.
Here are pics of two meets we’ve had
minor update
Bought a shroud to replace my fan from a PUSH to a more efficient PULL type, and ran into the ABS…smh. I cant move the rad any more, and the fan will most likely melt if i leave it as if. SO, i have almost everything to do the ABS delete, but with moving and my tools not being organize i think ill tackle this project on a later date. Here are some pics
Heres a pic at the track
also thinking about putting the original b17 in there and selling it close to stock(no TE37s either lol).
