P30 pistons

I’m trying to order some P30 pistons to put in my LS, I know they came in the b16 but do all the b16 variants (B16a, a1, a2, a3) have the same P30 pistons?

I tried searching but I could not find anything other than p30’s come in a b16.

P30’s are the JDM SiR pistons. The USDM B16’s have PR3’s.

89-91 JDM B16A engines also used the PR3 piston.

oh yeah i knew that, I just get the two mixed up. anyway do all the b16 variants such as b16a, a2, a3 all have the same Pr3 pistons? I’d be safe ordering the ones from the 94 delsol vtec correct?

No. All USDM B16 engines (including the B16A3 from the Del Sol VTEC) use the PR3 piston.

You would have to get P30 pistons from a vendor that imports parts from Honda Japan, as they were never used in the US.

You’re best off ordering a set of P73-A0 (USDM Integra Type R) pistons. They are almost identical to the P30 piston but have the anti-friction coating on them. They will run just about the same price as the P30 pistons, so you might as well spring for 'em.

Wait…are you trying to get PR3s or P30s? If you want PR3s, YES, you can get them from a Del Sol VTEC.

These guys may be able to help you with the pistons.

I’m trying to get the Pr3’s, I just had them confused with the p30’s. Thanks for the help, but now you got me interested in the p73’s, I thought they wouldn’t fit on the ls rods and thats why I was going to go with the pr3’s. Do they fit? and whats the anti friction coating

This is what you need to do.

why not get CTR pistons?..

Notice that these are going in a B18A block. CTR pistons in a B18A block yield over 12:1 compression.

It’s a black anti-friction coating that reduces friction at high piston speeds.

In this pic, notice that the R pistons have black skirts.

delete…double post

i know a few people that put CTR pistons for LS/V instead of PR3’s or P30’s because of the higher compression…but if he’s not looking for all motor then i guess i see what you mean…

go with the p30’s they fit right on ls rods and slightly higher compression than pr3’s.

True.

alright, thanks for all the help you guys, I think i’ll be going with the pr3’s unless I can find some P30’s with a .25 overbore because I’m having the block bored and honed. CTR pistons sound like fun but 12:1 is a little too much for me, I want to be able to run pump gas still. The anti friction coating seems like a badass idea but its still a budget build right now so R pistons are going to have to wait I think.

You can get a whole rebuild kit on ebay with all new bearings with b16b pistons an rings an gaskets for only like 300 so if you want them an are on a budget then that might work for you

P30 PR3 ARE KIND THE SAME AND P30 ARE NOT CTR PISTONS THE CODE IS pct

p30 pistons and p73-ao pistions are totally diff. with p30 pistons in an ls you will be at 11:1 cp with an oem head gasket p73-ao is more like 10.2:1 cp.

threads back from the dead, I ended up getting the p30’s from hmotorsonline for about the same price as honda wanted for the pr3’s so i jumped on the deal.

Well I finally got around to getting the pistons installed and I’m just a quick question for everyone else with p30 pistons in their LS:

Do the crown tops on your pistons stick up this much out of the block?

I know the crown top is what bumps the compression up but I just wanted to make sure they were suppose to stick up this much before I torque the head down and find out theres not enough clearance.

Thanks for your help
