I am being forced into changing my B20z2 setup to use the p8r head. Does anyone have any experience with this head? I need to know clearences and valve lash adjustment. Also what the popular cams to use are. Also is there any advice on how to plug the damn hole on the b20z2 intake mani, the one where the resonator box use to be.
Why are you forced? I’ll trade you a different head for it. The resonator box is a good item to plug the hole in the intake manifold. Why would you not want to use such a beautiful piece of Honda engineering?
btw since were on this topic anyone no if this will fit on an ls block becuase i always thought it would but i jus herd that it wont work is this true?
probably not due to the 84mm combustion chamber…personally i would think the head gasket would burn and not even seal anything…p8r for b20 only unless heavy machining is done to make the combustion chamber smaller (81mm)
The p8r is the same head that came on the b20b… am i correct?
why not just get a b18b or another b20z head? They’re the same and have better flow characteristics than the p8r.
as per the hole on the intake manifold, I believe phatcardesignz (I think that’s who it was) made a cap out of PVC and sealed the hole off. I went with a blox intake mani on mine.
umm the pr4 and p75 heads do NOT flow better than the pr8 head. the pr8 has larger ports and has the same size valves as the vtec heads which are bigger than the pr4/p75.
:werd:
the p8r has flow characteristics on par with a pr3 head.
Well so far i have gotten more questions than answers.
The mechanic that did the swap took it for a test and brought it back with a busted rocker arm, upon inspection one of the valves was stuck. As luck would have(this being the force), a p8r head was a $150 on ebay, and doing up the other head was an order of magnitude greater. Yes most of you are right as it being a better head, available only from jdm b20b, has intake valves I believe >3mm than other b20 heads, can’t be used on ls(81.5 vs. 84). Ultimately is there anyone who knows what valve lash is? How about cam bearing clearence?
Here are the specs for a standard B20B/Z P75 head. I don’t know where you would find info on the P8R in English. The cams that come in that head are the same as the B20B. The exhaust cams are the same on the B18B, B20B, and B20Z. The B20Z and B18B both have the same intake cams which has a little more lift than the B20B.
As far as the resonator box goes - I kept it. From what I understand, it helps with the midrange where a LS manifold performs very poorly. From my dyno there was nothing lacking in the midrange with the resonator box on. You might as well get a LS manifold if you don’t want the box on it. I believe Ben Ogle was the one to remove the box and cover the hole with something (there’s a link to a writeup somewhere).

Eric knows cus he bought mine :gayfight: :bowthank:
Thank you phatcardesignz you are a pimp!
and now due to my brother, it’s f-ed. Blown Hg, Seized head stud and a quarter sized hole in the block.
it was great for me though!
Wanna sell the camshafts??/ B20z2 rite?? Im interested. thanx
THanks for all the help everybody, got the head on with minimal effort, the crank pulley is truly the hardest part. Thanks to a large supply of sandwich bags it went very smoothly. Always buy new exhaust hardware. I am throwing a code 1 which I think is the 02 sensor. Also having issues with lash and ignition timing. Also HNFTuning wanna but the whole head? it is from a b20z2.
nah i just wanna pick up some B20z cams…
96+ B18B cams are the same.
Good to know…
