OKay here’s the deal, My car went in for paint 2 weeks ago, it was also getting the wing, side mouldings, emblems and front licence plate area shaved. Now I went to pick it up to day and there is spots where the paint ran (:@) and they “forgot” to do shit, but they are “fixing” this.
My major consern is that there is orange peel all over the place. They are trying to tell me that orange peel is normal on paint jobs BS?
Also where they welded and then covered the holes on my trunk the holes showed through…Iam not thinking I should have went here.
Anyways Iam just wondering if I am in the right to demand the fix all the stuff specially the orange peel.
To finish off the work and paint is costing me damn near 3500 CDN, so like 3000USD ish.
Help me out guys this is my baby and I do not have money to throw around.
Yeah you are getting ripped off if you paying that much on paint that looks like crap. Make sure when you go to pick it up you see the car outside and spot any blemishes. You are supposed to let let fix their mistakes 3 times and if it is still not fixed then you can sue.
I have painted many cars for way under that amount.I agree you are getting ripped off. Just explain to them that if they don’t know how to do the job right to give you your money back. Or else you can get a lawyer and have them sued for you money. Worst comes to worst go to another painter.
Check around trim pieces, windows, wheel wells, in between bumpers for any overspray. Check for any runs in the paint and like you said the “orange peel”. You will be able to spot everything in the sun.
orange peel is not normal. Maybe some slight that is in the clear, and that should be color sanded/buffed out and should end up flat. If they don’t know what they are doing, they shouldn’t be in that business. If you haven’t paid them, don’t pay them a dime until the paint job is done right. Take legal actions if you have to.
Orange peel is going to happen in any paint job. Look at any new car & you’ll see orange peel. Except for a Bently or something to that effect. As previously stated, wetsanding & buffing is what takes it away. Usually it’s in the clear. Those runs will be removed by wetsanding & buffing.
Ask 92mugenintegra if you want a definitive answer. He owns a paint/body shop here in Cent. FLA. If you wanna see his work, look in the MEET/HANGOUT PICS forum (Tampa meet pics thread) His is the white one w/ body kit molded in. The valve cover is car enamel too! It won NOPI last year, so if anyone knows whats up, he does.
