paint question

I went to a body shop here in south florida and have a few question.

The person said for the paint alone is 2,500

I have rust just below the rear side window (driver side) I also have some spots here and there but nothing to serious.

He said the 2500 is for the paint and it might be a little more for the molding.

I wanted to put new molding on but he said he could refinish it (refinish it black) for far cheaper than it would be if I got all new molding. Also he says he thinks the molding on the rear quarter panel windows are a part of the window and may have to buy a all new window if i want the molding thee re done.

Does this sound right to you guys?

Also do you think I should just paint the whole thing back white including the molding? Only thing I don’t like with that idea is if someone bumps into me or i bump into someone the paint comes off the molding and it looks like crap.

What are you guys thoughts on this.

Go somewhere else. If you hit someone or vice versa there’s no paint that will stay on the point of impact anywhere on the car if it hits hard enough. Just make sure the moldings are prepped right.

what do you mean by prep right? How will i know if it was prepped right?

$2500?? you kidding me right? does the price inclue a fairy sprinkling magic dust onto your car? why not just get your car painted at Maaco for 300-400 bucks. i hear they do an OK job depending on the shops. from what you are describing…it seems like they are trying to milk you for every dime, saying how they can do it cheaper painting the molding than rather have you buy em’ elsewhere, replacing windows…etc. unless your getting into show competition…why spend that much money on painting your car back to stock? i mean…you can get yourself another integra for that price or even two !! or go turbo, and still have money left for a decent paint job elsewhere.

thanks for being upfront. Now I know I need to go look else where for a paint job. I will hit two more shops tomorrow. I appreciate the honesty man!

I do not plan to sell this car ever. So i want the job to be done well, back to factory. How much is reasonable?

you can have a really really nice paintjob for less than $2500
its just a matter of doing most of the things on your own

this is what I would do if I were on a budget:

1)take it to a reputable body shop to take out dents/prime/prep-$300-$400
2)buy all of the oem seals, strips, rubber pieces from the dealer-$500-$700
3)then take all of the items and your car to an earl schieb or maaco and paint-$300-$500
