painted interior removal?

Can some one tell me how to remove vinyl paint from the interor? (ie: dashboard, door panels, kick panels…etc.) I know not to use paint thinners on the interior vinyl, I was just wondering if anyone knew how to remove the paint without damageing the vinyl under it.

By the way it is white paint on black vinyl.

Thanks!

was it primered or sanded? guess you can try thinner or acetone on a small section and see if it does anything to the vinyl

You could just paint over the white with black paint. I think its going to be pretty tough to remove the white paint with out damaging the viynl, so I say just paint over it.

I just did this to my car

I carefully scraped off the white paint with a butter knife. It scratched the vinyl a little, but it is not noticeable when it is repainted. (The paint was peeling in places, the person probably didn’t use adhesion promoter). Then i sanded it , used adhesion promoter (Bulldog is the best), and 4-5 light coats of paint. It turned out great!

If the paint won’t scrape off easily, just repaint, or look around in junkyards for replacement pieces and sell the painted ones

XDEep: It was primered but was not sanded. I tried to use aircraft paintremover on a small section. It ate the vinyl away.

WANAVTEC: what girt sandpaper did you use? I guess I could sand it and then paint over it.

I think it’s like 320 (really fine) It says “USE DRY OR WET FOR AUTOMOTIVE FINISHING” on the back. You just want to scuff up the surface. It really looked crappy when sanded but looked great painted.

I would attach a pic, but I can’t post attachments (maybe 'cause I’m not a member?)
