Painted Pillars pic requests

How many of you have painted the interior pillars black? I want to see! And what kind of paint you used and you’re impression of ow it’s holding up.

I’m going to be doing a roof mounted shark looking antenna and new headliner so I figured I would paint them black to match what I have going on inside my ride (two toned with black DA pieces and my stock poo brown interior)…plus I don’t like how the tan looks.

Here’s my thread, it covers most of your questions. On the hard plastic pieces, I used Krylon fusion paint, satin black.

That’s awesome! Your car looks great! Just a few questions though since you have done everything I am about to.

Did you sand the plastic at all first? Clean it with anything?

How did you cover the other side of the sunroof slider?

And…How did you go about covering your sun visors?

^what he said…also any close up pics?!

I also noticed you cut the bottom off your shift knob…I was going to do the exact same thing cause my boot doesn’t go far enough down on the short shifter.

I was thinking of trying to “custom weight” the stock shifter …I haven’t tried yet, but it doesn’t seem like there would be enough room if you popped off the part that has 1-5 on it.

I’ll second using Krylon fusion in satin black. All the tan interior pieces I’ve used it on have held up well.

The plastic got cleaned with Super Clean first, rinsed with water, then wiped with rubbing alcohol. no sanding needed.
You have to let the paint cure, not dry to the touch, before installing.

Other side of sunroof slider? If you mean the top side of the cover that is covered by the sun roof, I didn’t do any thing to it. It’s was black.

Visors got shot with SEMS vinyl dye, again satin black.

I can take a close up pic. What would you like?

That shift nob came out of a Legend. The numbers are chrome inlayed in the top, “fancy” it had boot clips on the bottom like an accord so off they went.
Hope this helps. Good luck.

i’d like to see a close up pic of the painted to teh stock

I’ve used Duplicolor Vinyl & Fabric Coating with great results. Used it on the headliner of my Integra as well as the entire brown interior of an old RX7 we turned into a rallyX car. It’s really great stuff, and looks like it might match better than the Krylon stuff teg cruzr used for his trim panels. Maybe it’s just the pics, but they look a very different color from the door panels which makes it look strange. They look darker or glossier maybe. The Duplicolor stuff has a much more matte sheen to it which replicates actual automobile interiors much better than a gloss paint would.

Here’s the headliner I did:

And here’s an up close shot to show that it retains it’s original texture

oh thats awesome

I can also vouch for the paint Colin used. I’ll mention though that when I did my interior the first time Krylon didn’t have a Satin Black, at least in my area. I used the Duplicolor Vinyl dye on the vinyl panels and on the plastic parts and it didn’t hold up as well on the plastic. I’ve since re-done the plastic panels with Krylon Fusion satin black and it matches pretty well with the Duplicolor vinyl parts.

Yeah, I wasn’t sure how well the Duplicolor would hold up on high wear plastic parts. Some of the paint is peeling on the visor hardware I painted, but likely thats going to happen with any paint. That’s good to know that Krylon makes a satin and that it matches pretty well. That sounds like the best combo - Duplicolor for fabric and vinyl, Krylon for plastics.

^^^Exactly. Dupli-color or SEMS vinyl and fabric on the soft stuff and Krylon Fusion on the plastic.
The Fusion satin black has a little more gloss apperance than I thought it would, won’t lie about that, it’s not as bad as it looks in the pics.
The flash from the camera just made it stand out a lil bit.

This is why I love this site!! You all rule!

You should post a picture of that knob…I can’t seem to find what it looks like in any kind of search.
