as everyone in nc knows it was really humid today…
i finaly finished prepping my car last week. toady i sprayed the back half of my integra. i am using nason ful-thane single stage black 3 quarts mixed with 1 quart of flattner. i mixed it 8:1:1 ratio…8 parts paint, 1 part harner and 1 part reducer.
well i accidentally laid down the first coat a little thick…only 1 small run. waited an hour and sprayed a light second coat…well after 3 hours the paint is still very tacky. i thought it was supposed to dry by then. is this due to the humidity? i worried it wont dry…should i let the car sit in the sun tomorrow if weather permits? also, they didnt use enough flattner. the paint is very glossy…orm is this due to the fact that it isnt dry yet?
Did you let it “Flash” between each coat? (did you wait…the certain amount of time). I wouldn’t take it outside into the sun because you run the risk of dust getting into the paint. get some heaters. were you using the correct reducer for the temperature of the environment? i don’t know how you’re going to get rid of the drips or runs…because usually people don’t cut and buff single stage paint…although it is do-able. I think your first coat was TOO thick…and it didn’t flash all the way.
i let it flash…the firts coat was a little too thick but it was slightly tacky when i applied the second coat. i used the reccomended hardner and reducer as well…nason/dupont reccomends a 8:2:1 mix but becuase i have a qt of flattener already in the paint so i was told to only put 1 part of reducer. i plan on wetsanding the car with 800 grit after it dries to remove the runs and to also to apply more coats that have more flatener in them. i think i am also going to use a 4:1:1 ratio on the other coats, i was told by a painter that its just a better ratio for humid conditions…im going to buy 2 space heaters tomorrow as well hopefully the heat will disperse some of the humidity as well (it was 80% humidity today )
the paint looks awsome other than the small run…its super shiny and smooth…too bad it was supposed to be “eggshell” satin…its ok, i will get more flattener added to it and the paint store.after i wet sand the car i plan on adding maybe 2-3 more LIGHT coats with the 4:1:1 ratio…
