hey guys im thinking im just going to paint the car my self since i have a garage so why not do it my self. well my questions are what should i do first…
the car is sanded now so do i have to primer it first than paint it
what kinda primer do i use can i use the once that u paint walls with that kinda primer cause i have a extra big bottle at home if not wat kinda primer do i get.
now about the colour . were and what kinda colour do i need i mean do i get a spray paint or what is there something esle i should know what not to do and what to do what should i look out for . prepration for this just help me out guys thanks.
if the car is sanded down here is what you should do.
get a tack rag and some prep solvent and clean the car thoroughly
get a spray gun and air compressor atleast.
obviously mask off any parts of the car not gettin painted ( any glass etc.)
get good primer meant for cars and prime the car. after that you will probably want to wet sand the car and get it all smooth and check for pinholes in the primer and whatnot
get a good basecoat and clearcoat that is meant for cars. again clean the car thoroughly and paint. then clear it
this is just a very rough guide to painting your car
you may want to consider not doing it yourself, especially in your garage. you will be spending alot of time fixing the paint you just sprayed because during the drying time your garage will have the oportunity to dump all sorts of dust and stuff you didn’t think was in there. I understand wanting to go the DIY route, a good paint job is expensive. if you must spray it yourself try to find a paint booth you can rent. use multiple light passes to prevent runs, and spend alot of time wet sanding your primer , base coat and clear
I’ve also heard that if you wet down your garage floor before hand and keep it wet, that’ll hold alot of dust and things on the floor and off the paint.
I’m actually repainting a section of my car that had gray primer on it for atleat a year… it looks like crap right now but it will look alot better than before. i’m doing mine outside… in my yard… it sucks…lol
well the thing is i allready did paint it myself now
but the problem is that its not shiny at all
and the paint i got says semi gloss when i first paint it , before it dries it loks so nice and shiney what clear coats can i get to give it that shinyy look?
i wanted to post a message there asking how come i cant get any shine on mines but i cant post a message in that section so stupid i think but oh well.
You probably got a single stage paint. Is it both base coat and clear separately or is it all in one? Single stage always looks dull and it sucks, but you also could’ve not cleared it good enough. I also don’t recommend the garage thing unless you have a very good vent system and block off all air incoming. Just clean the garage alot and have fans to vent the air out. There is a lot of dust and shit you wouldn’t consider being bad, but when it hardens in your clear it looks like shit. I know a friend of mine that puts plastic on the walls and wets everything down, but then you have to make sure not to splash any water on your paint.
well i dont know if its all in one or not but its TREMCLAD semi gloss black paint so i dunno, also waht is the best polish wax clear coat to make your car as shiney as possible thanks
I did mine outside on the street. I set up an ez-up tent and put a tarp around the sides, for a temporary spray booth and I used spray paint. It came out excellent.
getting alot of bubbles … its not coming out as smmoth as it was before im i mixing it to hard or to thin or it has notihng 2 do …i guess keeep on wetsandinggg im using 1000 grid gets rid of those but even less shine this is comfusingg…
