Hey all, just a quick one… I decided to try out the new “fusion” paint chemically formulated to bond to plastic (krylon) and so far it’s working good… just painted today but it has a nice shine, not too glossy and it covered nice (went form black to white) in about 1.5 coats… I’ll keep you posted on how it holds up to my daily driving.
I was thinking about using that stuff, but wasn’t sure about it. I test sprayed some plastic, let it dry and scratch tested it. It didn’t take to well, but it was only one coat.
Your not supposed to need to prep the area, just take some alcohol and clean the surface real good.
Anyone know what to use on carpet and on the seats?
Can we get an update on how that paint is holding up. Looks, from the pics, like you did a really nice job with it. How’s it holding up to everyday driving?
I would paint my interior over too, but I’m worried about this whole “FUSION WITH PLASTIC” thing. What if you want to remove the paint? Would you just have to paint over it ?
Actually you could sand it off pretty easy… When I was painting I dropped a paper towel when it was drying… So I let it drive and sanded and repainted, can’t even tell.
where did u get the paint from…looks nice and where do u have the neons at…are they under the dash…oh and did u take the pieces out or wat to paint them…
They carry the paint at Wal-Mart, I got mine from Kragen’s… I removed the peices to paint them, like 9 screws and some friction clips.
And my neons are mounted under the seats, near the front/back railslider handles… And I ran the wires under the console while it was out for painting… About 2 hours total, removing panels/painting/drying/installing neons/reinstalling panels
Is your paint still holding up? when I painted mine with vinyl interior white, it started to peel couple days later. so I painted it again, and the same thing happened, so I took it out, It was a pita to take out.

Did you paint vinyl of the ABS plastic molded interior pieces?? If you used a vinyl MEK-based dye or paint for hard plastic, you will have miserable results every time.
Sorry if I stated the obvious but I am just trying to help…
I have just reciently painted my interior school bus yellow! I used the plastic-kote ultra enamel exterior/interior paint! I put about 4 coats on it and bought some clear classic lacquer to put on after the paint dries. It turned out better than I could imagine! I used nothing to prep it but alcohol to clean! I totally recommend this! You should take out the pieces that you want to paint for best results! It is very easy to clean and looks like it always has armor-all on it!!! Pictures soon!!!
hey heres an idea. lemme run it by you fellas. All that “fabric” crap on my door panels is peeling , and i looked under it and found the same vinyl stuff that makes the dash…so logically i could paint that using the same paints right? (Assuming i sanded off all the old adhesive and cleaned it with some alk or some other stuff). I think it would look really cool to paint all those door panels silver to complement the S2000 silver color of my car.
i had my panels apart a while back and was thinging the same thing. however the glue and crud under the fabric makes sanding and painting a bad idea unless you want to spend hours on it.
i just replaced the fabric with another color. red on black and glued it back in place. it looks great.
one other idea i had and i may still do it is to use epoxy on the middle section to smooth it out. then when its all smooth paint it.
ya, its an xmas vacation project, so i got time to figure shit out. I think i have some chemicals than can dissolve the glue and crud without destroying the vinyl (my dad runs the shipping dept and the buildings dept of a headphone company and getting glue of vinyl and plastic is common, so hopefully hell have something). I dont like the smoothing epoxy idea (sorry), but working with that kind of stuff has never been my forte, especially in a semi-heated garage during a wisconsin winter.
I used Krylon Fusion to paint my dash bezel yellow. Turned out great! Hasn’t chipped or peeled and doesn’t get even the slightest bit sticky even in the summer and my car is black! This summer I plan to strip my entire interior, lay down sound deadening, tint the windows, and totally redo the interior black with yellow accents. I’ll be using Krylon Fusion for everything but the vinyl door panels which I’ll use vinyl paint. Anybody know a good method for removing the door carpet? Is the teg tips version the best or is there a better way. Even better, anybody know where to buy yellow vinyl?
