Hey guys, I was following the painting moldings tutorial and got to the part where I take the moldings off. I attempted to take the left molding off; I took ONE screw out near the door jam (pic shown) and then just sort of tried to pull it out. In this process I managed to damage the molding Anyway, I need to know how to properly take the moldings off.
I took off the door panel and there is a bunch of plastic there – should I just rip through this plastic so I can pinch the little plastic things with plyers? Am I doing this completely wrong?
Also, how do I get behind the wheel well in order to take off the front moldings?
Oh, and would it be best for me to take off the front bumper to paint it? Does the front bumper molding even come off?
Thanks for the help If anyone could explain to me how to get them all off that would be awesome.
It’s actually pretty easy… You’ll probably need another person helping you out…
once u got the door panel off and have the plastic covering off… just get a pair of pliers and squeez the tabs on the clips …but do the first one closest to you first…squeeze…and pull the moulding out…and repeat for all the clips…then the last clip is red…just slide it off…the red clip will be stuck on the door…but just push it in and it’ll fall into the bottom of the door and u can just grab it…its pretty straight forward man.
and for the fender, just take off the plastic covering under there and put some pliers insde to squeeze those clips and pull the mooulding…
the rear is a bit hard… i cant explain that one. i cant remember how i did it
ahha dude i just painted my molding while they were on the car, i just taped up the edges and sprayed all the moldings front side and back and it looks good
u have 2 choices. u can either take the rear panels off which i think is pretty ez, or u can just try to pry it off and then slide the molding i dont know which way
