Just had a quick question regarding painting some rims. After doing some research on this site, seems that half of the threads say to use primer, and the other half, make no mention of it at all. Right now contemplating going from silver to white, or possibly just staying silver. Just looking at some confirmation of whether or not I need to get me some primer, or if it’s good to paint, after doing all the sanding/scotch brite/stripper?
Edit - can this be moved to the proper section. Sorry!
Well primer is mainly used so the paint can stick onto the rims better or you can just say fuck it and just spray what you have now… but I think if you went ahead and sanded and all that good stuff, might as well go one more step and primer it… do it the right way the first time…
Well i don’t wanna do it half assed, that’s why I’m asking. I want it to come out good, and for it to last. Thanks for the help!!
After primer and paint… finish the rims up with a shot or two of clearcoat, that way it will look a little shinnier and have less paint chippiage <— don’t know if that’s even a word :read:
Keyword is do not strip existing paint chemically. The best possible suface to paint on is the factory paint carefully cleaned up with 320 grit. It will hold just as good if not better than primer if done correctly.
Also, clearcoat is indeed very important.
