Painting Sucks!!

I am getting ready to paint my side moldings and install my new front
lip on my 90 GS but I ran into a problem, I read the teg tip about painting
but it didnt tell me fully what I need to know. It says to sand all of them
but the moldings on the doors feel like rubber, should I still paint them???

hello fellow wisconsinite :stuck_out_tongue:

yes sand the molding, otherwise the paint will chip/come off within weeks/months of you painting the moldings. if you don’t sand them, this will create to smooth of a surface & the primer will not be able to stick to the moldings. if you are still too iffy about it, use finer sand paper instead of coarse…go w/ 240-800

my friend got his ed civic painted & the guy didn’t sand his moldings. the paint is already chipping by the fender, and its been about 6 months or so

i wouldn’t really sand them, just use adhesion promoter. just make sure you clean them really really well before you apply the adhesion promoter, otherwise, the paint might not be “uniform” so to speak.

ok…even though they feel like rubber i should still sand them??
