got lots of painting question huh. well I figured this is the only place that I can rely on. Just bought a stock wing with a LED and waiting for it.
Can anyone give me a brief direction on how should I go about on painting my wing? like what kind of primer, paint and how to give it a glossy look. thx for replies
I’m just about to try repainting my own spoiler…
I was going to use regular primer, but I found some specifically for non-metal surfaces (plastic or fiberglass). So I’m going to see how that works. Problem is it’s a clear primer, so I think that after I prime it with that, I’ll use a regular primer to even out any color irregularities so the red looks even.
I’m going to try color match paint (from canadian tire) followed by a spray-on clear coat. If that paint doesn’t match properly, I’ll have to find some somewhere else that will hopefully work better. Or just re-prep it to paint and take it to a shop to get the paint and clearcoat done. I have to get my hatch painted anyways…
Also to prevent rust under the posts on the spoiler (the reason for me having to get my hatch re-painted), make sure you use some double-sided tape under the posts and use some rubber washers on the inside of the hatch so that the nuts aren’t in contact with the hatch surface. Any other tips for spoiler post rust prevention would be welcomed! I REALLY don’t want it to come back…
