When starting the car, the parking brake light will stay on, then slowly fade out after a bit. Checked the brake fluid level - it’s full. The hand brake turns the light on when pulled OK. Have had a new ground wire attached from battery to frame.
Any suggestions?
Graham
Check your brake fluid level and the brake fluid level switch. 94
The level is fine. I’ll try the switch. Thanks,
Wonder if the brake dash lite is controlled by the ICU or the ECU for the sec or two that’s lit.
The hand brake/brake fluid level warning light in the cluster is controlled by ground from the hand brake switch, [when engaged] and a ground from the brake fluid level switch, [in the brake fluid reservoir cap] if fluid is low,[ or switch is defective].:whisper:94
The problem still exists, but it only happens when the car is cold.
I noticed it didn’t happen after a stop/start at the gas station.
If a switch were bad, you would think it is either ‘on’ or ‘off’ - not slowly fading out each time. The light goes on nicely when the hand brake is pulled, so that switch seems fine.
I think I’ll just ‘live with it’ for the time being as it always goes out within a min or so and really doesn’t seem to be causing any problems.
I’ll report back if anything else related happens down the road.
The problem disappeared after replacing my speedo cable.
The dimming light hasn’t been back.
Very strange…
Graham
That is strange, but good.94
