Parking light fuse keeps blowing.

Alright, so recently I became aware of this problem due to being pulled over for no rear lights at night… Lol. the cop was cool and let me go… Anyway, The dash cluster lights, and daytime running lights do not work. any time i try to replace the fuse, it blow immediately when the switch is turned on. I can’t figure out what is causing this. also, i don’t know if this is related, but the intermittent wipers sometimes don’t work either. they just run as if they are on LOW.

any thoughts?

Wipers are the ICU common issue (search for it)

Does the fuse blow when you put it in or after you turn on the lights? Does it blow when the park lights are turned on or headlights? What about if you use your turn signals? Sounds like a short somewhere (there is also a similar post to yours but he doesn’t have the fuse issue)

The fuse blows AFTER I switch it to the DRL position. My Headlights DO work, as well as my fogs. Corner markers dont work, unless they are on hazards or turn signals. No tail lights, 3rd Brake light and rear brake lights work.

I did do the foglight rewire from kinuza but i dont understand how this would cause the other lights to not work, and the fogs still work… if that makes sense.

anyway, i have resorted to NOT driving at night. or driving with my other foot on the brakes if near cops.

same here i just got that yesterday. need help pretty bad, idk where to find that short out, fuse blows right after i switch it on to drls

Yeah this is pretty annoying.

could be the icu is shorting out internally. though it’s not indefinite, seeing as how int. wipers don’t work sometimes, i’d probably look in that direction.
could be the icu is shorting out internally. though it’s not indefinite, seeing as how int. wipers don’t work sometimes, i’d probably look in that direction.
It is unlikely to be the ICU as the ICU only controles the park lights for the front side markers, but it can be tested by unplugging the ICU andseeing if the fuse still blows.

More likely, [if you have an aftermarket HU] is a short on the red/black illumination lead in the stock radio harness, almost never used with aftermarket HUs. 94

Thanks fcm…

another thing I should point out is that when this started happening, the wire from my fog switch rewire job was hanging down kind of low and when i stepped on the clutch pedal, my foot snagged the wire and ripped it out from the fog light switch. I blew a lot of fuses in the process, and all accessories stopped working. I was able to replace all the bad fuses, and everything but the DRL’s were working again. Now when i put a new fuse in, it immediately blows when i turn the switch to the DRL’s.

an interesting thing happened…
My drls work again…
I redid the fog light wiring, and replaced the blown fuse, and they worked. then i went to go eat and when i left, they weren’t working again. when i got home, i replaced the burnt out fuse. and ever since, they have been working again.

Ok, I just had this same thing happen to me. My intermiten wipers are the same as low, and have been for some time now, but just tonight I started noticing that my fuse is constantly blowing, and it’s when I turn the lights on. And just the same, my headlights, fogs, turn signals, hazards, and brake lights all work, it’s just that my parking lights are not. I have been dreading doing the icu fix, as I am not the best at stuff like that, but I am curious to know about the red/black wire from the radio harness. I have an aftermarket stereo, and it has been in since I bought the car. I just recently hooked up my amp, power cap, and sub but after doing this, my lights were still working for about a week or so. What should I check for or do as far as that red/black wire is conserned? Thanks for any and all info.

Ok I got impatient and pulled my ICU out because as I went out to try and figure out what was blowing my fuses, my intermitent wipers suddenly decided to work. Since this started, I remembered reading in other posts about the ICU so I decided to pull mine out, and what do ya know. CRAPPY! What I would like to know is, should I buy another one from someone else or a junkyard, or do you guys think mine is salvagable? I was looking at how bad this one leaked everywhere and thinking about what all it has effected and I’m not sure I want to waste my time on this one if it’s pretty much trashed. Any input would be awesome guys as my car sits in my garage waiting for new life. I would post a pic but my camera sucks and won’t let me focus on the black marks on the motherboard of the ICU. Thanks all
