Parts list for b20z/b18b engine

Hey, can someone enlighten me on this,

Well I want to do this soon, maybe this summer. I already have a 95 b18b port and polish head and am getting a 96 LS intake manifold.

What I need to get is:
b20Z/b block and internals
crower 403 cams and crower valve train (springs retainers)
Mr. GAsket copper head gasket, to raise CR marginally (I haven’t heard good or bad about these, someone enlighten me??, but with facts not what you heard/opinion)
GSR oil pump
LS Water pump
intake/exhaust gaskets
cam plugs
ARP bolts?

Do I need anything else??
Well my ultimate goal is to balance the crankshaft of the b20z and maybe better rods and pistons, but not to go over the regular b20 bore size. Also will get the head flow benched for better airflow gain hopefully?

Do you guys/gals have any recommendation of which type of rod pistons to get and if I should put a different crank in it? I will probably leave the redline where it is, with the stock LS ecu. I want to build this thing rock solid so it last for YEARS!

I’m not going to turbo this, as this will be my daily driver and I DO NOT want to put vtec on it too. I will be autoxing the thing so I want the torque and like non vtec better.

Any suggestions would be GREAT THANKS!

Were you planning on getting aftermarket cam gears as well(didn’t see that on the list)? What about a lightened flywheel? I’m not crazy about the superlight ones(like under 10lbs) but I think the ITR flywheel(around 14lbs) would be a good middle-of-the-road flywheel.
I really hope I have the money to do a similar project to what you’re talking about this summer. Good luck with it.

Yes i would suggest a lighter flywheel. I went with the ITR flywheel with my b20z. And a good clutch too if you don’t have one already. Also, the b20 already has a GSR or an ITR (i have forgotten which one) oil pump so you don’t really need one unless the oil pump on the b20 block is old or broken.

oh yah and the cam gears, AEM has three bolt design, which is the company that has the 6 bolt design??

As for flywheel, I’m not sure, probably not simply becuase its expensive and I don’t want to mess with my stock flywheel.

I’m going to be rebuilding another LS tranny that I have lying around and replace the clutch with an Exedy.

I’m on a tight budget here so cost is VERY IMPORTANT!
I was thinking about a block guard, but not necessary since I won’t be turbo’ing, fuel rail, but this is dumb IMO since a fuel rail is a fuel rail you know. The injectors is what matters. I’m sticking with the stock injectors too, non-obd, but probably cleaned out either by RC later in the future.

I was going to rep[lace the oil and water pump just cuz, so I don’t have problems down the road. Its oil pump in the GSR and ITR are the same, according to one of the sources for info I have found.

As for rods, since I kinda wanna stay as stock internally as possible, I was thinking about JDM rods and pistons, but then again I want high output motor, but on regular non premium gas, so I’m not going to be raising the compression.

b20’s oil pumps are the same as gsr’s like Jonster said.

JFYI, I’ve seen type r flywheels on thepartstrader for $100 shipped more than once. I’m not sure if you’d need an ITR pressure plate as well though, you might. But anyway, that isn’t too expensive if you’re on budget and I know what that’s like. Good luck.

Oh yeah, I think skunk2 has the 6 bolt design. There’s another brand with 4 bolts, can’t remember which though.
