ok so I’m getting my engine done soon and tunning it on E85.
some smog shops will a smog it even if it’s built, just as long as it passes smog they won’t doc me on the visual inspection.
I know my setup may play a big role.

Depends on your tune, more than the fuel being used.
You may need an ‘emission’ tune, and a performance tune and swap the ECU chip come emission time… Hard to say though. You really should talk to the person who will end up actually tuning your car.
good luck in super restrictive socal… i remember seeing a thread on ht a few years back where a guy posted a link showing that cars that converted to i believe e85 would be legalized regardless of upgrades based solely on the fact that they were e85… it could have changed by now or only be in certain regions but just letting you know… if you want to get a backdoor smog i could help.

I’d suggest yu see if you can at least get that B20 setup BAR’d before you tune it… if you got the BAR sticker then you can always find someone to work a deal on smogging it after you tune.
