Paul's 92 DA rescue and build.

Hey there guys. I have not been on this forum much since I bought my rsx and sold my last DA a year ago. However, as most of you know, once you own a DA/DB you catch a bug that you can never get rid of. Below is my newest project, a 92 GS that I obtained for free through a trade. This car looks extremely rough and absolutely needs a lot of work, from a new motor, engine harness, to quite a bit of bodywork and an abs delete. However, all the panels line up straight, and there are is practically no rust other than one tiny, easily repaired spot. Without delay, below are pics of this project of 2nd Gen love.

As I found it half consumed by the forest:

Got it home, wasted no time sending off the title. Body panels appear to be straight:

Wasted no time removing the engine with nothing but hand tools, and a tire jack to lower the blown motor:

Greasy as hell engine bay:

Yes, I removed this engine with simple hand tools by lowering it through the bottom with a tire jack!!! I suspect it was blown due to the owner letting it overheat repeatedly and never changing the oil. In fact, the oil was so broken down, that it came out as three quarts of the thickest, nastiest smelling black sludge you can imagine. Also, because the engine was stuck, I ended up having a very difficult time getting to all the 10mm torque converter/flex plate bolts.

Currently, I am going to take some time to clean up the bay, and possibly delete abs before installing a new motor. Will update this in a few days.

Congrats on finding such a clean shell, and best of luck with it!

Look at that hole in the front block!

I know right!!! The guy I got it from cold started it when it was knocking bad, and as a result, threw a rod out the block. Also, the oil was not really oil at all, but rather three quarts of the blackest, most vomitous sludge you have ever seen.

5 speed swap in the future?

Yes, but for now the main goal is to get the car up and running first, so the automatic will stay for a while.

Today, I spent some time cleaning up the corroded mess under the battery tray:

Nice job on saving this one - will be fun to watch the build. Good luck.

So anyways, over the last few days I have pulled all the electronic switches in the cabin, and cleaned them up with OEM dielectric grease. Since it has become quite cold in the last few weeks, I have spent most my indoor time thinking about where I am going with this project. Have decided I will keep it mostly stock, with minimal mods and an eventual b18c/manual trans swap. However, I would definitely like to paint the exterior a flat, satin, or matte black, with OEM one-piece headlights and white colored rims.

This is a close example of the exterior I want:

I know its been a while since I posted last. Been quite busy with school, and being low on funds lengthened the time to get the car running again. Here are some pix of the engine bay cleanup, paint, and engine install.
