Pennzoil Synchromesh rocks!

Just an FYI:

I have a 93 LS and the I have having issues getting car into 3rd and sometimes 5th. Well this weekend I had the original tranny fluid flushed and put in the Pennzoil Synchromesh. Man what a difference, after driving a few miles no more grinding when going into 3rd gear at high rpms and no more issues with 5th gear either. I highly recommend this stuff.

I’ve heard that GM’s Synchromesh fluid works quite well, also.

GM Syncromesh is exactly the same as Pennzoil Syncromesh

Thats what I’ve read too, but I decided to get the Pennzoil after learning its basically the same thing for half the price. But so far its been smooth sailing for the tranny.

So biggie, (uh huh, yea ::puffy:: lol) when you say you had problems getting into first and fifth, what was the problem exactly? Wuld the shifter get “stuck” and not fully get into gear? I have this problem with my 93 gs. Sometimes, and I stress sometimes, when i got to shift into first from neutral, and once or twice from first to second, the shifter just plain old gets stuck, and wont get into gear. Just this past weekend, i was driving with my cousin and he was shifting (he lost his arm in an accident a few years ago, so this is his way of driving stick when hes with me or my bro, lol) well he shifted into third, and it felt weird when he shifted, so i went to drop it out of gear, and the damn thing was stuck in third. This seems to be the original problem getting worse, and im sorry to whore your thread like this, just wanted to know if your problem is the same as mine, so ill know how to remedy this. Thanks.

No shit! Huh…learn something new everyday.

I replaced my clutch not to long ago and shifting was getting a bit tedious. Now dont flame me for this cuz I know its retarded when I thought about it a lil. For some reason it dawned on me that mobil one would make good tranny fluid after my current fluid was getting stiff. Worked great but after awhile you could tell it was a little too lubricated in there, the syncros couldnt do their job. Upshifting the gears were notchy and downsifting I would have to hold the gear until it pulled itself in, many times gears were restricted to certain MPH that they would go in, like second would only engage when downshifting below 20. After I switched to syncromesh and gave it time to bite into the metal its soo much better than what it was before I made my mistake. I’m glad I only left mobil in there for a few months, I could have burned syncros. I can shift into any gear almost anytime no matter what direction I am shifting, the MPH, or engine RPM. It really is great stuff

Is there any guide to putting this in? I’m not sure where the fluid goes on a 90’ RS.

There is a drain and fill hole on the bottom right of the transmission, near the passanger side axel. The drain is a 3/8" drive, or half I forget but its a straight drive. The fill hole is above it maybe 6 inches. Step 1, drain all fluid, replace drain bolt Step 2, with a hose and funnel fill fluid until it reaches the fill hole, or overflows. Its a piece of cake once you find the plugs, a second person is needed when filling to avoid spilling fluid. hth
