People with voltmeters…this isn’t normal for my teg

So to get to the issue quick, my battery died and I jumped it on a friend’s car. now my voltmeter is reading high numbers. My charging system is making numbers in the high 14s and even 15volts, where it beeps for a high voltage warning.

In the past- my old integra (with a sound system) was low 13s at stop lights and high 13s when driving. Basically 12.9 to 13.3 stop lights. 13.9 to 14.2 on the drive.
My new integra without a system has had better numbers and I was just thinking it’s the alternator. High 13s at stop lights and mid 14s on the drive.

So the issue- my battery died (fan relay killed it and I didn’t get another one yet) and I jump it, why would it produce 14.8 to 15.1 when driving? Bad ground is my only thought. Possibly it wasn’t to charge strong while the battery can take it? anyone with voltmeters on there teg have numbers to throw back at me? any ideas?

While driving my teg is around mid 13’s sometimes 13.8 - 14.1. When I’m braking to a stop light it drop to around 12.9 then regulates back out.

Sounds like your voltage regulator is bad my friend. It’s built-in to the alternator, so you should probably look into replacing. While your at it replace your grounds with thicker gauge wire.

Well the overcharging seems to be gone now that my battery is charged. I got home and threw the battery on the charger and problem solved…i think. On the way to work the numbers never got over 14.5.

Im still interested to see what kind of voltage you guys get when driving. Im sure sound system and alternator are a factor too.

Its producting more voltage to charge the battery…

Think of voltage as pressure, if you have an 80psi pump you cant pump a tire up to 80psi because the pressure will just equal out and there will be no way to force more air into the air

You have a 12.6 volt battery. You need to make higher voltage then 12.6 to actually make the battery reach 12.6

Your car is perfectly fine.
