The production numbers aparently are not sequential in any way. There’s another writeup somewhere else. If you read the whole thread, you’ll find your answer here too.
The production number on my GSR is low and a 93 aswell, but you’ll also find some 93s with a higher production number.
Hmm, i did read this whole thread (I had a couple of hours to burn). I saw a few disagreements go back and forth but nothing concrete. Hence, I decided to do a little more searching and found a few ooold threads on here:
A lot of the arguments found there are about production plant and assembly plant. Everyone seems to agree on the sequencing of the last 6 digits corresponding to production numbers. I theorize the reason why you see 93 GSRs with low “production numbers” is that (I theorize, of course) the numbers reset for 1993.
I also read somewhere in this thread that there were 1500 GSRs made in 92 and 3500 made in 93? That would mean that the 1501st GSR ever made would also have the 0001 in the last part of the VIN… This also supports the fact that I have done some searching and haven’t found a GSR with a higher number than “3500” at the end. I dunno, this is just all my theory that i gathered from some threads I read, I could be completely wrong.

That’s interesting… perhaps there are more than 1500 built in 1992? I’m going to get to the bottom of this. I know how to calculate VIN’s check numbers (9th character in VIN)… unlimited carfax reports FTW.
