Hello, I have a question regarding the pinouts for putting a 88-91 B16A in my 91 LS. I read the Engine Swap Guide by Dan from the TEG TIPS, and it helped a lot. I still have one question though. On the pinouts sheet…besides the missing 3 Vtec wires and 2nd O2…there are some other diffrences. Molex Plug #B19 is a knock sensor on the PR3/PW0 and a P/S Oil Switch on the PR4.
and Molex Plug #C9 are diffrent from each other as well. On the Vtec ECU its for the P/S oil Pressure Switch and on the PR4 in my LS its for the PA Sensor. I know TEG TIPS didn’t say anything about it…but do these wires need to be switched at all? Like i.e. the PR4 wire going into Molex #B19 (P/S Oil Switch) need to be taken out an go into Molex Plug #C9 when I run the new ECU? I don’t want a check engine light or anything. PLEASE help! This is my first post, and an important question to me. Thanks, SupercupGT2
anyone??
I believe so… like put the appropriate wire to the right ping out. Move it to where it’s suppose to be on the new ecu.

see, thats what I was thinking, and the Engine Swap guide doesn’t address it at all. A lot of people here have done B16A swaps, so I know they would know for sure. Just got to get someone to respond with a definitive answer:uhoh: Thanks, SerialOne for your input. I think your right, but I’m not positive.
Yup…exactly. The PA Sensor stays disconnected and the rest of the pins you need to swap to where they are supposed to go on the PR3 ECU. I can go into more detail if you wish.
Just who I wanted to respond! Cool thanks Dan, and if you could go into more detail that would be awesome! Thanks, LocalePED
Oh and where does the wire come from on my harness that plugs into the knock sensor pin on Molex Plug #B19 on the PR3/PW0 ECU, cause I don’t see a pinout for it on the PR4. Yet, I’m sure you were going to let me know, but I just wanted to throw it out there before I forgot. Thanks again! LocalePED
Okay…here we go. This is what your harness should have in it when you’re done…
A8- VTEC Spool Solenoid Valve (add pin and wire to empty location on harness)
B5- VTEC Pressure Switch (VTM) (add pin and wire to empty location on harness)
B19- Knock Sensor (remove the P/S Oil Pressure switch pin/wire and put it in C9 where the PA Sensor currently is. Leave the PA sensor disconnected. It’s not used with the PR3/PW0 ECU.
C8- Secondary O2 sensor (add pin and wire to empty location on harness)
C9- P/S Oil Pressure switch (moved from location B19)
Other than that you are set to go. The ground from the VTEC pressure switch goes to any chassis ground.
Best of luck and let me know if you have any questions.
Awesome! So it looks like I’m only adding 2 wires for vtec instead of 3 like it says in the swap…and I’m not putting anything in B19 for the knock sensor once I remove the P/S Oil Pressure Switch? Or am I running a new wire in B19? and I leave the PA disconnected. Did I get that right? Thanks again, and please let me know if I misinterpreted anything wrong. Later, LocalePED
Well, there are three wires for VTEC, but only two of them go to the ECU…the other goes to ground. If you have a Mugen Chipped PR3, you don’t need to hook up the knock sensor, otherwise you need to add a wire for the knock sensor to B19. All the other stuff you got right. Simply read the pins on the last post I put up…those are the wires that should be coming out of your harness at those locations when you are done.

Wow, thanks Dan! That answered a lot of questions! Later, Supercupgt2
knock sensor
is the knock sensor the one with the green connector and the two wires coming out of it? if so, do i only need to run the non-black wire to b19? also, what do i do about the fact that i cannot use the subframe stabilizer (goes from front to rear subframe) due to the different front pipe?
thanks,
kyle
I like to see a verydeatil way on how to do this i just got my B16 working bu no vtec untill i run the wiering. I need to know how to do this as well.
