I just got a 1992 gs-r integra. it has b-17a1 in it. now for the questions. I want to put cams in the head nothing extreme but im not sure what will fit in the head. b16, or b18c1/5 cams? also would itr cams make any difference, and would i have to change the timing so the valves would not hit each other. other question is about the sunroof. the rails on the glass is rusted. and the glass is cracked. Would i have to change the whole assembly or just the glass and rails? also is there anything else i should know about the car?
Any dohc vtec cams Will interchange. Id do the itr cams unless your wanting to go supermarket
will the itr cams make a big improvement?
Well… Look at the HP numbers…
A Type-R has roughly 30whp more than a B17… but the cams are not the only difference.
Yes they will make a noticeable improvement, but you’d need to upgrade the valve-springs as well because you’ll be pushing the stock ones further than they’re designed to be pushed.
It would probably be the same cost to get an aftermarket setup that will yield better results/gain.
If you want to get cams your gonna want to build your block first. Because the bigger cams will need higher compression to make any good power out of the cams. Even if you get type r cams the b18c5 has 11:1 comperssion ratio. So look into getting some b16 pistons or aftermarket high compression pistons.
would the b16 piston be able to hold with some new rings and bearings? or would it be cheaper and more efficient to just pull the b17 and swap out a b18c1/5 with a new obd1 ecu?
even if you bought a low mile imported b18c/r it’s RECOMMENDED that you change out (oil/water pump, timing belt, plugs, ect. )
if you got a bare block, or even a fully assembled engine locally, you would probably still want to add aftermarket parts?
in this case since you already have a dohc vtec engine it might be cheaper and more efficient to just build what you have, and get a good tune.
ok thank you man.
