Hey guys!
I know this sounds silly but I was wondering if you might post some links/pics or ideas of methods to flush mount DIN units into our dash? I am considering getting some work done or doing the work myself and I wanted to get some new ideas before I take the installer for coffee or suds.
I would like to fiberglass the top of the radio opening to just above the cig lighter and then cut out 2 DIN openings in that. I have also considered cutting the support bar behind the radio or rebuilding the center console, etc. My aim here is to be able to flush my 2 units (Blau Sydney 7 series (soon to be San Fransisco) and a Kenwood eq KGC-7043 (or a half DIN KPD-P110 digital processor). The Blau is a little deeper than most other DIN units but the Kenwoods are pretty shallow (if anyone didn’t already know). Regardless, I’d like to have the two units flushed in and recessed maybe an 1/8" so that I can mount my old stocker head unit’s face to a trim piece of abs and stick it over top to look stock.
I don’t think that using a Metra kit is the way to go for this but I am open to suggestions. I’ve seen some slick work done modifying the older GM kits but agian… let the ideas roll. Please don’t tell me to get a life, an alarm, and tint the windows, etc. I have a good alarm but I have been envisioning this head unit install for quite some time and now the number is up…
Thanks,
Andrew.
