ok about 6 months ago i had my clutch replaced at pepboys. and today i was driving around normaly and when i shifted into 2nd. there was a loud snap and the car just coasted, well i got out of the car and my gears were layin on the road, and i was wanderin if pepboys could of screwed something up in there to make it do this, and if not i was wondering what are my options for transmissions, i would like to do something a little stronger. another thing i only got a ps exhaust and akimoto intake so i dont think im running to much power through it for it to do this. any suggestions and comments will help thanks:dead:
Curious,
Did you rev hard at all during the past 6 months? Also, what is labour warranty on the clutch? I’d take it back to pepboys and give ‘em hell coz’ most likely they didn’t torque the bolts down correctly or forgot to re-install some of the bolts back. It looks like they owe you a new tranny from what you’re telling us so far.
Sorry to say this → I hope you learned a lesson that when dealing with stuff like this, NEVER EVER (UNDER ANY CIRCUMSTANCES) have your car repaired by PepBoys, Crappy Tire (in Canada only), Wal-Mart, Sears, or any of those guys. Small stuff like fixing tires or installing them is okay, but for changing clutches, engine work, or anything of that nature…DON’T. Find yourself a trustworthy mechanic and don’t let go. It’s more critical when you’ve done some mods to your car.
Good luck,
Oz
well ive raced a few times but with in the past month the driving has been pretty normal what should i bring up to them to get them to fix this, cuz i dont think this should of happend thanks
For one, never bring up the fact that you’ve been racing. Just say you drive it normally. FYI, I’ve seen/known a lot of 5-spd owners who shift around 4000-4500rpm and they consider that normal driving. Personally for me that’s a tad high, but you can say that once in a blue moon you’ll rev high (let’s say 5k) to pass traffic or something, but no higher than that. Also, don’t mention the fact that you drop your clutch too. Just make them think that you drive like a grandma, but don’t lead them on too much. They ain’t stupid, they know you got a modded sports coupe. They will of course, put the blame on you as much as possible and try to stay away from paying any incidental costs (like paying for a new tranny). If I were you, I wouldn’t take that kind of crap. Read your receipt/contract carefully as well. And use that to your advantage. Speak to a manager if you have to. Make a scene if you have to. Last thing they want is a scene in front of a lot of people who are getting their cars repaired, and here’s a guy who just returned with a damaged transmission.
Good luck,
Oz
