PLEEEEEEZ tell me wut's wrong w/brakes!!!!

Ok, I just put all 4 new rotors and pads on. In addition I had a new wheel bearing put in the driver front because i THOUGHT it was the one making a whirring noise when I pull to the right. Well i was wrong about that, but my BIG dilemma is that my brakes sound like HELL!!! I mean BAD. They squeal like you can’t even imagine, and it sounds like the driver front is the one making most of the noise. I did everything myself and I’m usually pretty good at this stuff so I have no idea why it’s so damn noisy. Someone told me to drive with my brakes applied for a few minutes and that did nothing but heat the crap out of them! So if anyone here can give me any suggestions I would appreciate it.

O and by the way, I didn’t put the crush washers back on the caliper bolts on the driver front so it’s a tiny bit loose but I didn’t think it would make a difference, cuz I lost them along time ago anyway.

What kind of pads did you use? Some pads just squeal more than others. What rotors did you use? Stock replacements or slotted/cross drilled? All of this information is needed to help you analyze your problem.

sometimes the new shims can slide out and rub against the rotor hat… happened to me.

you DID replace the shims right?

cheap autozone replacements. and no i didn’t replace the shims. the shims are the cheap metal things that keep them in right?

That’s why. I only use genuine Honda pads. It’s the perfect balance between a lasting pad and a soft compound to avoid the squeal commonly assosiated with cheapy after market pads. Especially if you used a full metallic pad. OUCH. They may be guaranteed for life, but what do they do to your rotors? Just something to think about.

YEs the shims make a difference. if put on correctly your pads shouldn’t even squeak at all. i suggest removing the pads and putting the shims on with some of that gunk they sell for a buck.
