Popping when hitting bumps, Very rough also. Stock Suspension

Hello,

I bought my newest DA as a winter beater so i can get some work done on the other car. I have had this on a lift and can not really see anything loose.

i have tried moving my front wheels up and down, and in and out, while it was in the air, and its all solid.

I was thinking the popping is the steering tie rod ball joints but like i said, in the air everything looks solid.

i have searched around, a lot of forums are saying its ball joints, but i dont know why it feels like i hit a boulder when i roll over a 1/2" step up going over a bridge doing 25mph.

This car is 100% stock and my tires are good with recommended PSI.

Thanks

i would look into your struts and springs the springs can break i found this out when putting on struts and it could also be the strut mount. If the car is on the ground and you push on the fender near the shock tower locations can you hear anything or does it take the car a while to stop bouncing around like more than 3 times.

I would try this.

I would check the bushings where the front shocks meet the lower arm. I noticed a “clunk” while test driving it (bumps and coming to a stop) and assumed the brake caliper bracket was loose. After buying it and getting it home, I realized that the bushing in the lower arm where the front shock mounts on the passenger side was completely shot.

This might be the “strut mount” to which hondattic was referring, I just wanted to relay my personal experience and terminology I would use to describe it.

^^^^ this

check all those bushings!

Awesome, thanks guys. It doesnt bounce around a lot, just like braking and bumps its like this. Its been snowing like crazy so i havent had time to check it out, but i will give an update ASAP. Thanks a ton for the suggestions so far. Much appreciated.

Also the bushings between the strut rod and the top mount of the shock. The 2 bushings can wear out, and that can be another point that can makes noise when suspension is compressed. If you pop your hood, usually if those bushings are shot, the rod and nut assembly would be sitting higher than normal. Either compare sides, left to right, or you can compare to your other teg.

HTH

Try pushing on the wheel in and out while it is on the ground not lifted up. I have the same issue. Its my upper balljoint. On the ground it will shake. If I lift the car up its solid when I try to shake it. Its because the balljoint wears in a certain position. Once you raise the car up the position moves and it seems solid. Just a thought.

Ok so i Finally got the car on a lift with a good light. Turns out my lower control arm bushings are destroyed, my upper control arm ball joints have massive play (This is what was popping when turning), and the sway bar bushings have 1/4" cracks all over them. Also the rear lower control arm bushings are shot. Shocks and springs seem fine, nothing broke.

So i ordered new upper control arms, Energy bushing sets for front and rear, and new bolts/bushings for sway bar.

Damn shady people selling me there cars and not saying a word about this lol, my fault i guess. win some, lose some.

Im on DA/DB #6 had to happen some time.

Glad you got it figured out. With something like that, the last guy probably just didn’t know. It is crazy the kinds of things people will pass off as “yeah, my car just does that sometimes.” and just not think anything of it.

PS. If you can avoid outside today, I would recommend it. At least down here, the roads are still crap. yuk.
