This is not exactly the right way to do it. they left out a bunch of details in the middle. And I don’t like GUNK unless you are desperate. Gunk is very harsh, and overall I wouldn’t trust it. In the end you want to use a water based dressing, not tire foam spray.
Super Clean did a good job on my engine bay
just watch it on exterior paint and the plastic along the cowl below the windshield
i would use the citrus based de-greasers…thta way you dont have to worry about your rubber stuff getting eaten up…also, dawn dish soap works well too…so does liquid tide
…and keep your engine running when you spray it. Don’t have to cover your distributor, but just don’t spray directly onto it. Areas like that can be wiped by hand.
Went to get an oil change today and they couldn’t believe my car was a 91!!
I’m so proud of her!! ( and i haven’t washed her in about a week!!)
if you maintain a clean engine bay, say clean it like every 2 weeks or so it makes it alot easier to manage…if you let it go for too long it makes it a PITA to clean and grime gets baked on
If you use megs hyper dressing 4:1 you will get alot of product, and it will last for months. Mine still looked brand new after I cleaned it 2 months prior.
4:1 with water??
is it water based
thats long lasting for water based
Yes, Yes, and Yes but I just think it needs the proper maintenance and conditions to last that long.
i’ll have to check it out!
thanks for the tips
ever since i did this everyone gets boners from looking at my bay pretty much…and its mostly stock
pretty darn good tip i guess but i didn’t use all the same stuff but same concept
i used different stuff too but it makes the bay 100 times better
beeing able to see fluid levels etc
I tried it and wasn’t impressed…
I followed it like the site said, minus tire foam…

That first link was total BS. Like some people pointed out, that kid put some hours detailing that bay. I wasn’t too impressed w/ the regular gunk (#1 WBS) aerosol. I personally like greased lightning automotive cleaner. I had a bunch of greased hand marks all over my stock white paint, I took a brush an some water/g-lightning mix and it cleaned up real nice. But my paint job is junk now, I wouldn’t do it to my 05 vehicle. My only gripe is that it’s a fast evaporator.
At any rate, gunk or G-lightning are going to need to be used w/ toothbrush agitation(or another tool). Gunk etc… don’t have the lifting power of, say, a carb/brake cleaner. IMO.
I took carburetor cleaner to the hood latch, which I thought was black, it looks like new metal now.
My valve cover is still drying from paint, I’ll post my cleaning tomorrow. If you clean all of your pipes, hoses, plastics etc w/ a cleaner and then apply a dressing it looks 1000 times better than w/out the dressing. IMO
I used Meguiars hot shine tire spray(liquid bottle) on wrags and Q-tips to hit up the sensors and small stuff. I need to try some of that Meg’s hyper dressing.

Yeah I figured the top link was BS. I was showing that with the pics. I will have to put 2-3 hours or so into it one day…
