ok well i upgraded my “big 3” recently, and i ran a 5ft 4 gauge wire from the alternator to the fusebox, and for grounds i used 2ga from the battery to chassis, and 4 gauge from the chassis to tranny, and a random 8 gauge from tranny to battery and 4 gauge from vc stud to chassis. are these okay? (ps the grounds are not connected to each other cuz i was using what i had in wire length) all connection points were sanded down to bare metal.
heres a pic.
everything seems to have improved i suppose, but i have one issue, and that is sometimes (not everytime) when i turn on my headlights they look dim for a second and then shine full brightness like something kicked in almost, is this because of my grounds? or should i have a fuse in that length of positive wire from my alternator? thanks in advance
Your problem is not related to the “big 3”, [unless something is not tight] and no you do not need a fuse in the charge line, [alt. to fuse box].
If the “problem” is with both the left and right sides I would start by checking fuse 33 - 50A, [hot at all times] in engine bay fuse box, make sure it is tightly mounted, next I would check the head light switch, it’s getting a little old, next check the dash harness, [with head light leads] plug into the under dash fuse box.
Up to the fuse box the wiring and connections are common to both the left and right side, from the fuses, [3 and 4] the left and right side are independent of each other, so if problem is on both lights it must be before the fuses.
Try this, make sure the high beams are on so when you turn on the head lights you can see if the problem exists on both low and high beam, if it only happens on low beam then then it’s a good bet the “Dimmer Switch” portion of the “Combination Light Switch” has bad contact points on the low beam pole.:hmm:94
