Possible for Thermostat to "stick" and then "unstick"?

Today i was trying again to tell if it was actually the thermostat that was malfunctioning and creating my overheating problems. But to no avail could I get the damn car to overheat anymore. The fans started kicking in fine, and the car just wouldn’t overheat. I had a pro mechanic there too and I was like, dang… sort of like it was faking it but got scared when the mechanic came. Anyway, my theory is that perhaps the thermostat spring was stuck? and it came undone after a day or two of revving?

Yes, mine was overheating sometimes, then other days it would be fine, replaced the thermostat and no problems in two weeks.

didn’t you say you jiggled a green connection that you thought was loose?

My suggestion is replace your thermostat with a honda/acura one, don’t go to napa! I had a problem with the one that was in my integra and I went to napa to get another one thinking it was the same and the problem only got worst when I put the napa one in. Also be very careful when putting it together because the gasket has a mind of it’s own and doesn’t always like to stay in place when you are putting it back together.

get the MUGEN thermostat with the thermal switch. Its a 160 degree, and not a 180 degree like stock. Ho is running it and he loves it, big difference in temp. Also you can use Water wetter (i think its called that) works well also

Yea your car will heat up faster in the morning from what i’m told, and plus its MUUUUUUUUGEEEEEEEEEN :), i think it’s wetter water

I got myself a new one from Honda for $14 but haven’t installed it yet. I drove all the way from Berkeley down to UCSB without a problem. It did seem to get stuck once, but now it’s okay. The mugen one sounds tempting…

wetter water? what is that? where does it go?

well, why dont u just replace the thermostat and forget about the guessing game. I mean it’s only a $10 part plus antifreeze and water.
