Power deleting?

I have a 93 GSR and now that it is getting cold and dark outside I am driving with my lights on and heater and defroster on and my lights are dimming and so is my idle. I first noticed it when I just had my lights on and when I would touch the brakes I could just slightly tell that my headlights would dim. Then, with my lights on and my heater and/or defroster, my headlights are dimming and my lights inside the car are dimming(including the dash) pretty bad when I touch the brake, and inside, when I turn on my front map light thing, that also dims. So basically, when there is something running, I dim:(. Any idea what is wrong?
Thanks

I have the exact same problem… i’d like to know a cure please!

my alternator is whinning at 1-1.5K RPM’s… is that somehow related?

Thanks!

I’m not positive but it sounds like an alternator problem to me. It could possibly be the battery though. I’m sure somebody will know for sure what your problem is.

Yeah sounds like alternator to me. If you guys have pulleys in your cars then those could also be the culprit. I’ve heard that most G2’s have that problem, but to a far lesser extent. My headlights dim at idle, but get bright again when i start to drive. Most people i’ve talked to have experienced something similar. But yeah i’d get the alternator checked out and possibly replaced. Good luck.

Really? A lot of people have this problem? Hmmm…somebody must have fixed it then, anyone know?:frowning:

put a bigger alternator in.
I partially solved my similar problem when I replaced my batter with an optima batter…but my lights still dim when I’m sitting idling and get brighter when I step on the gas. My guess is that the alternater just isn’t powerful enough to put out enough juice to run all of our lights plus interior lights and a heater/fan all at once when the engine is idling. If this is true then the only way to fix it would be to put a higher output alternator in or bump up your idle until it stops.

Me…I just ignore it
