I’ve got a 91ls and i’d like to put in a keyless entry, but as we all know, you need power locks for keyless entry, and i don’t have power locks.
How would i change them to power locks and what would I need
Ballpark $$$$?

You don’t need power locks to have the convenience of keyless entry , lots of alarms offer this as a standard feature.
what?
How can the locks unlock if they’re not powered…cmon dude
Ok, so an alarm might have keyless entry, but HOW DO I HOOK UP THE POWER LOCKS once again…
I can lock/unlock my doors all day with my alarm remote. I have an LS…no power locks. Now with alarms and aftermarket kits they use modules that go inside your door panels. As far as obtaining factory style power locks INSIDE the car, I can only say try to piece one off a car that’s being parted. How much these things will run I don’t know. I hope I’m steering you in the right direction though.
when i got keyless in my civic dx with my alarm; it was a pain in the ass. it costed 60$ a door. when they did mine, the passenger side door would get stuck, like if i hit the lock, it would only make it half way. i would have to lock it manually  and if your only riding by yourself… it sucks having to lock the doors manually; both sides.
i think the best way to go is get the option installed by the dealership b/c then you will have the switch inside the car instead of the only means of controling the locks by the remote. make sure you have the DOORS LOCK WHEN YOU START UP YOUR ENGINE and being able to lock it without the remote. cuz that was my #1 arger was focused at.
Yeah, i think i’ll just have the dealership install it, then if it breaks, its their fault!!!
I just hate the thought of having to part w/my baby for like a week while the stoob mechanics take days to install it…I wonder how much they’d charge if i was like “Look, i’m gonna go to lunch, and i want it done when i come back.”
<— pro negotiator (studying to be a DA)
i’m thinkin about $125-$150 installed…(with keyless entry)
Don’t forget to shop around Homey…even some dealers will give you a better price than others. Just make sure it’s reputable whereever you go.
Reputable? They’re locks…how much work is involved? lol
BTW, how much is a good alarm that u can roll down the windows/ remote starter/ all that crazy shizit
one more q, Can you install a remote starter on a car thats stick? i heard that you can’t, becuz you’ve gotta depress the clutch for it to start, but hell, its all just a computer so there’s gotta be some hack for it…
So you’re saying you don’t mind any jackass off the street working on your car?
nah, ic what u mean…
So can i get some general $$$ figures? What do u tnk it would cost?
Well, a few years back when I got my Alpine alarm and added features like: Armed…closes sunroof, rolls up windows, cracks windows within 7 seconds of arming (if so desired), locks doors, radar monitoring. Disarmed:…unlocks doors, rolls down windows (if so desired) within 7 seconds of disarming and opens sunroof at any time, armed or disarmed. For all those extra modules the alarm ended up being close to 800. But I loved it. Mind you the alarm cost 3 something (I forget) standard and after I added the different modules it skyrocketed. You might get lucky nowadays though. And you may not want all that stuff either, cept for remote starter
what you all are referring to is know as the lock actuator, which costs 20 dollars (US) a piece NEW
when u have these u DO have power locks, there may NOT be a switch inside your car, but if its on ur alarm key chain thingy then u have it
it shhould not be a lot more money to get it with power locks, like i said 20 a piece x2 = 40 dollars witha little mod’s needed (i believe it shuldn’t be hard seeing as how other modles came standard w/ PL)
hope tthat helped:)
joe:D
Ya that did, ty guys.
But i don’t remember seein nething about the remote starter (given, i’m a little drunk at the moment,) but yeah, can u get it installed on a manual trans? if so how?
there is a shop here that does a lot of work on imports and I asked about the remote start on a standard he said that there wasn’t one hope that helps
of course you can do a remote start on stick shift car. you will need two extra circuits to be installed. first is the clutch bypass relay which just fools the car into thinking that the clutch is depressed to start. this can be done with the remote starts alarm disable output to a relay that will power the wire that shows the car that the pedal is depressed, which can be grabbed at the clutch pedal itself. second is the neutral safety switch. you have to put this funky piece of plastic with a cable to a ground switch so it will activate only when the car is in neutral. any other time it shows ground and will be hooked into the R.S.'s safety disable inputs. both parts are cheap and relatively easy to come by. about 40 dollars for a relay and a safety switch.
but what you do need to know is that they are pretty much illegal everywhere and most install shops will not do it for reliability reasons. I wasn’t allowed to do them at the shop i worked at, but did for a few of my personal vehicles so it does work. good luck.

Ha! I knew my little quirk was gonna be good for somethin. Since I did my B16 swap/auto-to-manny conversion, I can start my car without pressin the clutch pedal. It’s pretty convenient sometimes.
go to the dealer? no way man…just buy 2 actuators for like
$7.00 each and there you go…power door locks. If you really
want to have a switch in the car to work both doors, then
you can go buy a switch for $1.00, and hook it up to the alarm
you buy, and there you go…you can control the door locks from
inside the car.
Going to the dealer for this is overkill. If you buy a keyless entry
system or alarm that has built in relays, then all you need are
two actuators. If you buy one that doesn’t have built-in relays,
then you’ll have to buy 2 relays (~$10.00 more).
If you need a diagram or something, let me know, and I can
show you how.
For the remote starter and stuff like that…you can probably
get a Viper 550esp (alarm, remote starter, …) for anywhere
from $100 to $150. Or you could spend $100 more and get
a 2-way Viper (like the 790xv). Window modules (the DEI
ones that control 2 windows) run about $50. They’re awesome!
Check out Part #742 (actuators) on this page. I like bulldog
for parts like actuators and relays (not for alarms, though) because
they have a lifetime warranty. If you actuator blows up, they’ll
just replace it for free. Click here for actuators
my friend was parting out his 4 door teg
and i took his rear door handle pieces with
the lock switches in them and the lock acutatiors…
im gonna try to install them soon… the only thing is i wont
be able to unlock the door without the switch… oh well
can someone clarify this for me… I have a 91 LS with manual locks, and I had an alarm installed by the dealership (Silencer Security Systems). So if I wanted power locks, I would just have to install two (2) actuators for each door? This is of course, if I didn’t care for having a switch. But keyless entry would be a whole new kit to buy?
*off to do more research
you need 2 relays as well. the alarm has a single output for your door locks. that output goes through the relays then to the actuators in the doors.
