Power Steering: high pressure hose leaking

I am having a really big leaking problem with my power steering main line.
I’ve replaced the original with an aftermarket new one…it leaked.
I’ve replaced that one with a used OEM one, it started to leak as well.
I was going to buy a new OEM one, but am not liking idea of having to replace this one as well if it starts to leak.

Does anyone have any idea if there is a certain amount of pressure that should be within the power steering system or is it non-adjustable???

Your power steering pump is a positive displacement pump. Pressure is not adjustable. If it’s leaking from the metal coupler where it Bolts to the pump, that’s pretty common. It’s not unlikely that the used one you got was on it’s way out and the aftermarket one was just junk

Welfare, thanks. I kind of figured that was the case with all that was said, I just needed the validation. Would you know of any quality mfg’s I can trust other than OEM for purchasing a new line?? I’ve seen Gates and Nichirin. but not sure of quality and if they are built to OEM specs. I’m tired of having to clean my bay, this now would be the 3rd time, of all the oil that has leaked everywhere. Thanks for your responses.

Try replacing the seal BEHIND THE pump pulley. My lines had the same issue (even replaced w a new aftermarket one) and I did the seal replacement for $5 from Acura lol, fixed! It really looked to me like the hose was leaking, turns out it wasnt, i mean the hose had fluid ALL over it. Here is the link:

Very simple fix!
Just did this with a friend over the weekend, and it’s a pretty simple fix. You can do this without taking the pump off the car, but it can get messy since fluid will leak all over everything. This may take 30 minutes or so to do.

The rotating shaft seal behind the pulley is what’s almost always leaking, and once you get the pulley off you can tell by the radial grease spatters on the inside of the pulley if this is where it’s coming from. If it’s a big leak or one that’s left a while, it’ll be all over the bottom of the upper P/S hose, the hood, your A/C compressor (if you still have one).

You will need to part with $4-5 for part#23 (Acura part# 91201-PC1-003) from the attached diagram.

There are probably far better ways to do this, but the procedure we used is as follows:

  1. Lift coolant recovery bottle and relocate for enough clearance to turn a wrench

1.5 Great time to degrunge everything that got greasy with old P/S fluid - spray carb cleaner or brake parts cleaner over compressor, outside of the P/S pump, etc.

  1. Remove pulley bolt (Read your manual - this bolt has a left-handed thread, so turn clockwise to loosen!!) You shouldn’t need a lot of force. It also helps to put a screwdriver through one of the holes in the pulley, to wedge it against the pump housing to keep it from turning. Keep the screwdriver away from any fittings to avoid damaging them.

  2. Loosen tension on the P/S belt and then slide the pulley off the shaft.

  3. Remove four long bolts (part#16 on attached diagram) on front of the pump housing, then carefully slide the front of the housing (part#5 on attached diagram) off the shaft.

  4. Push the seal out of the housing, clean off all surfaces of the pump, housing and shaft, and press the new seal into place on the housing. Make sure that the seal is seated evenly, and take care not to disturb the factory-applied lubricant inside the seal when you reinstall it. Also make sure you avoid stepping in the huge puddle of P/S fluid now pooling at your feet.

  5. Slide the housing with new seal back onto the pump shaft, and then reinsert the bolts. Tighten down (gently, if like me you didn’t have the torque specs) the bolts, then replace the pulley and hand.thread the pulley bolt on.

  6. Put the P/S belt back on, insert a screwdriver into one of the holes of the pulley and then tighten the pulley bolt.

  7. Tension the belt, fill up your P/S rservoir with a bottle of fresh fluid, and you’re done

WOW! so detailed. and that’s exactly as your describing how my engine bay is looking AGAIN, to the T. I may just go ahead and order only the seal and a preformed hose that connects to the cooling unit. Thanks for your help.

bro instead of having powersteering leaks and wasting money on that stuff JUST TAKE IT OUT YOUR CAR  I DID IT HAHA AND I LOVE N:salute:O POWER STEERING

word, and it only takes about 1 week to get used to it.

Question is though, are you willing to sacrifice your one handed parallel park?

lol haha welll for me i dont usuaully parallel park anywhere…i always have big lots to park in and driveways… honestly itts not that badd…it gives u muscles

Another way to chk is to see if its flinging it on the hood above where the pully meets pump…that tipped me off 100%.

Keep the PS man, lol…esp if its a DD.

thanks guys my DA is a daily, I have no reason for taking out the PS, so it stays. i ordered the seal, a hose and a new feed line. will get to work on it over the weekend. then i can finally keep my bay and garage clean.
