Ok so I have searched around and seen many peoples different point of views, and opinions on this. Some people say just remove the pump and connect the lines together, other people say to plug the lines. What should I do? Can I totally remove the lines? If so do I have to plug off any lines? I want to minimize the PS lines to save weight. Do you think that I will have any future problems with my steering system if the PS is no longer installed? So if I have to plug the lines off what would you suggest that I plug them off with? Is there some sort of metal plug or fitting that I could attach to it or slightly modify to make it work? Should the remaining small lines be filled with fluid or should they be empty?
hmmm…never heard anyone say connect the lines together, if you do that the PS fluid will just sit in the lines, ie. not getting pumped, and still no PS, so whats the point?
I removed the pump, used bolt cutters to cut most of the lines, then later on, i removed all the lines, you’ll have to get under the car to completly do this of course.
and you really shouldn’t have any problems with the steering system, like some people say will happen, but i removed my PS and AC like 2 months ago, everything is FINE. then I just replaced both cv axles last week, it couldn’t possibly be in better shape.
buy yeah, if you’re gonna remove the PS, i suggest removing all the lines, and letting the fluid leak out.
The lines you have to plug are on the transmission (the speed sensor). You can just loop the two fittings to each other … and remove all the other power steering lines. Of course, it’s much easier to do with the engine removed hehe, that’s the only time I have done this.
What did u do with the electrical connection connected to the ps line just below the master cylinder??
