I’ll try to explain this headache the best I can…
When swapping from power windows, to crank windows, heres what I did - maybe it’ll help someone else…
Original : 90 door, power windows, standard locks, power mirrors.
New : 93 door, crank windows, standard locks, standard mirrors.
First remove the door panel. On the '90 with power windows you have to remove a little circle in the handle part that has the window switches. Below it is a philips screw. Theres another screw inside the handle cup piece, and another in the plastic trim piece around the handle/lock. I had another screw on the inside of the door panel near the dashboard on the side, and one - maybe 2 on the outside. For crank handles, theres a metal pin around the handle itself. Pull it out with a screwdriver. The bottom is held on by nipple like clips that can be pulled out easily… The top is held on by a metal lip - you have to fold the door panel up almost 80 degrees and pull that way…
Once exposed, you should see your harness for the power windows, the power mirrors and the speakers… The harness plug is DIFFERENT when going crank to power and vice versa. You can NOT use the power mirror/window harness coming out of the dash, with the plug in the door.
To remove the harness, it’s all held on by similar clips that the door panel is held on by. Remove them with a screwdriver. Remove the speaker and speaker surrounding (usually to transfer over to a new door, if you swap doors) Once gone, you can see the rest of the harness. Push the clips in on the main plug in the door (the side near the dash again) and the main harness clip will go inside the door. Remove another nipple clip INSIDE the door itself (can usually push the pin part of the nipple clip from the outside of the door, near the speaker)
Transfering harnesses over is easy and straight forward… Tuck your harness inside the speaker hole, and push the harness clip inside where you removed it from… Install is reverse to removal ;).
To swap mirrors (power mirrors for cranks, vice versa) pull the plastic triangle cover (2 clips) off, exposing 3 screws. Remove the screws and pull the harness through the hole. On crank mirrors you have a plastic handle - the cover comes off, exposing a screw… When that’s removed, same as power. You need the harness for power mirrors if you want to swap, pus the harness coming from the dash - plus the button on the dash near the steering wheel…
When swapping doors, remove the pin holding the door from opening wide. Remove the 4 bolts holding the hinges to the door, and remove the door. Install is opposite to removal again.
Have a friend help you with this. The doors are heavy and you wouldn’t want to break one now…
If swapping the entire door you’ll have the change your locks and handles or there isn’t much point in locking your doors I didn’t get that far, I’m just going to rock no locks for a while… I’ll add some pictures to this tomorrow or the next day, as I still have all my pieces torn apart… If anyone wants a specific picture give me a heads up so I know what you guys are looking for.
It semed really straight forward, but ended up taking like 2 hours… Once we knew what to do it took 20 minutes :(…
Maybe this helps…
