I own a mostly stock automatic GS. I’ve been trying to figure out the best way to launch my car off the line. I used to rev it up to 3k rpm in “Neutral” and pop it into “Drive” but my friends tell me that is really bad for the car. A friend with an automatic IS300 told me to try power- braking…(revving while still in “Drive” by holding down the brake while pushing the gas). I was wondering if this method would hurt my brakes… or even transmission in anyway. Also… at what rpm do you all launch? I’ve found that I can only get my revs up to about 2500 while power-braking.
WoW man I dunno about the Power Braking. But I know too many people back in High School that did neutral drops and BYE BYE transmission!!! Had one friend in a 90 rs spin an axel and F*ck his tranny… Do some research on the Power Braking… Not too much different than trying to do a brake stand in a RWD car. But it will take it’s toll on your brakes…

**But a manual and then have fun with that… Justa thought
neither is good for your tranny. The nuetral “bomb” is by far worse however
i know this is an old thread but…
thats what you have a torque converter for. you cant rev past stall speed without turning the tranny. you cant turn the tranny without turning the wheels. so unless youre just sorta half ass on the brakes, theyll be ok. you do leave the car in drive at stop lights i assume?
Here’s an idea, don’t drag race in an Automatic.
powerbraking kills your torque converter, neutral drops kills your transmission itself. Don’t do either one. Seriously. Auto trans sucks at life, accept it and move on. Be ONE with the suckage.
:gunleft: AUTO TRANS :gunright:
power braking in a rear wheel drive is totally different the power braking in a front wheel drive…if your that into racing and want to really get into it see if there is a company that makes a transbrake or a line lock for your teg, but i doubt youd want to spend that kind of money
You assclown, an auto tranny is the BEST thing to drag race with, just not for the POS Honda trannies.
hold the brake… rev it up to around 2500… dont floor it though… drop the pedal 3/4 of the way down and once the R’s get up put it to the floor… look into the level 10 torque converters with a higher stall speed… those of you bashing on autos really need to get a clue… auto shifts quicker/doesnt miss shifts… and if your boosting… you never lose boost… I’ve been in a turbo auto with a full level 10 tranny… it throws you in the seat and keeps you there… I’m not saying that all the auto tegs are faster… but with a tranny thats built up a bit then can do some damage.
I prefer manuals, but auto trannies are ideal for bracket racing.
That’s right. Auto trannys are more consistent for bracket racing. If you are competing when you are at the track, you are just clowning around.
