I’ve been searching for a good while now, got lost in that “legend brake upgrade” thread but I just can’t seem to find out much info on the Vtec Prelude Calipers.
I have the opportunity to buy the front brake setup from a vtec prelude but the only information I can find is on Legend Calipers and prelude rotors…Well what about prelude calipers and prelude rotors? Does anyone know if they are they any better/worse than the legend calipers?
Would you buy them for a decent price or specifically find legends?
So I if this is correct, you would pretty much be upgrading to ITR calipers.
Decided to cross reference part numbers and this is what I found.
1994 Prelude VTEC Caliper Part #'s:
06452-SM5-505RM CALIPER SUB-ASSY., R. FR. (RMD)
06453-SM5-505RM CALIPER SUB-ASSY., L. FR. (RMD)
2001 Integra Type R Caliper Part #'s:
06452-SM5-505RM CALIPER SUB-ASSY., R. FR. (RMD)
06453-SM5-505RM CALIPER SUB-ASSY., L. FR. (RMD)
So if you can get a decent price on the calipers, go for it. It’ll be the same as upgrading to ITR calipers. If you want dual piston, hold off for those Legend GS sedan 2 piston calipers.
well i was referring to the piston diameter, i was searching through a parts catalog to find out the piston diameters because they sell replacements for calipers of course and found out most of them are the same size.
also found this on honda-tech
and the prelude caliper and ITR caliper as you have confirmed are the exact same thing and so are the piston part numbers also.
also note brakeexpert is referring to the Legend single piston caliper. (non GS)
Daaaaamn do I have a lot to learn about searching…Never thought of checking out the part numbers and associating the prelude vtec to the ITR. (Thanks yeyo!) Im gonna do some searching on the ITR swap as you suggest and see what people are saying.
I know I could get both front calipers and rotors for $100…Would you guys buy?
Thanks again guys, great info and a huge help. I have to give this guy an answer soon and I was not having much luck.
$100 brand new? If it’s all used, you have to take into consideration that the calipers may need a rebuild and the rotors may be warped or something. Also, the rotors will have to be redrilled to fit your 4x100 lug pattern.
Make sure for those $100 you go ahead and get the bracket (where the brake pad sits) that goes w/ the calipers also.
tilegend: I see what you mean, but there must be a difference in that ITR caliper. I’ve noticed BrakeExpert usually refers to using the ITR caliper for upgrading the brakes in his other posts. I can’t get the link right now because I’m responding from my BlackBerry.
same thing i was wondering but there are a lot of sources out there that say the ITR piston diameter is 57mm… which is the same as all of the other integras and as you have confirmed is the same as the prelude VTEC calipers.
now after some more searching the ITR brake pads are actually larger than what the non type-r calipers use, and of course the rotor diameter is larger and thickness of the rotor is increased.
and perhaps this is where the performance is increased.

Yes, very true about the bigger pads etc… That’s why I was telling Zenmachine to make sure he got the bracket that holds the pads, along with the calipers.
17CL15VN is the casting number you want to look for on the single piston set-up. You can also find them on Legend non-GSs as well. Picked up my calipers with brackets from the junkyard off of a Legend non-GS for $22 plus a little more for a OEM rebuild kit. So you don’t have to spend alot on the set-up
correct, I love this setup. Re-drill rotors to 4x100 and machine caliper bracket on the inside. Use your OEM style steel braided lines and you are sorted.
